  • Z28 Instrument Panel Swap

I have searched through the forum but haven't found anyone that swapped a Z28 cluster into a 98 V6. I tried once swapping a 99 Z28 cluster in but all my car did was beep and some lights came on. I noticed that on the 99 the odometer was internally backlit while my 98 needed a light bulb behind to light it up. I was wondering if anyone had successfully swapped and if they had any problems.

There all setup the same from 97+ no matter what engine, it should all be plug and go. Never heard of a cluster beeping before,Theres no where for it to beep. Ive put a 00 Z28 cluster in a 01 V6 when i went to school and it was all plug in and go. Make sure it wasnt the one out of a supercharged with a hideaway license plate camaro

I looked into doing this a few months ago, but never did. Basically what I heard was that you have to buy a cluster from the same year/make as your car. So you would need it from a 98 camaro. Also, supposedly your tach will be off by like 2000 rpms or something. I've heard you can swap out fuses between the the two, but I have no idea what fuse it is. So it'd probably take a lil tweaking if you want it accurate, and you'd definately need to get your speedo programmed if a gear change is ever done too to keep things reading properly.

Ummm yah thats makes no sense how would your car know what eyar its from, they are all the same. I said above i did one and not from the same years and no the rpms were not off by much.

I never did the mod, I was just repeating what I gathered from when I researched it. Maybe you got lucky, maybe I got bad info too though. I was just trying to help him out. People told me that if they mixed/matched years that all the gauges were off. They may look the same, but I dont think they are the exact same internally . I just remember one guy having a 99 Camaro and putting in an 01 cluster and saying like the gas gauge would go up instead of rpms, and the turn signals would flip the battery meter back and forth. This is just what I got from my research. Like I said, I havent actually done the swap, but this was the info I received when I asked about it a few months ago. I mean, that's awesome if it does work out and I got bad info, that'd make my day. I'd love to have the 150mph speedo, I'm just new to customizing my car though so I don't have too much knowledge on messing around with all the parts. But heck, if it does work then I'll be looking into doing it on my car soon too. Later.
