• Tail Light Center Piece

I think using a Dremel tool to cut out the Firebird lettering and screaming chicken on the center piece and then putting a 3rd brake light behind it would look cool. I know they sell custom 3rd brake lights on the net, but I was just wondering if you could do it yourself before I hacked mine all up. :D

Ok so you are wanting to fool with the black center plate between the taillights right? The one that says firebird with the picture of the firebird on it?

And you want to drill out the letters/picture and rig a light behind it to make it light up when you hit your breaks?? That would be sweet but kind of odd... It would be cool if you could have it always on with your taillights and brighten when you push the breaks, that would probably look real good =)

Anyways they are just stickers on the black plate, they are not painted on. And I would recommend using the 98+ firebird plate b/c the logo/font looks a lot cooler then the 93-97 plate.

The only place I know of that sells custom 3rd brake lights for us is custolight.com but it's just the normal 3rd brake light.. I doubt anyone has done what you want to do.

Good luck and definitely post pics when you're done!!! And maybe I will send you my center piece for you to do mine as well if you want to make some $$$ cuz that would look bad a$$

Do you or anyone else know where I could find those stickers??? On my car the "Firebird" decal is gone and the screaming chicken has begun to fade and fall apart.

Here is a picture of my car...

Also, if I could find a 98+ plate would it be a simple strait swap?

Sorry to interrupt, but this has been bugging me ever since I bought the car. It just sucks not being able to see the word "FIREBIRD" on the back. :(

      Thanks

I had the same problem with my 94 Firebird and at the time no one made the decals. But this guy does and here's a link to his website. He offers them in the GM colors too. I got Pewter Metallic for my back filler. Firebird Decals

Check out pics of the decals here and also some other decals Rob Folsom made for me. He makes great decals and is nice to deal with.Formula Decal Pic

This is a pic of my 94 which I hand painted the back piece with GM paint

Instead of replacing those stickers is there any way to just rub them off completely. My car is black so the plate would blend in fine. I figure theres lots of ways to get rid of it but I didn't want to screw up the paint.

            Ok here's what you do...
Take some Goo Gone and pour it onto a rag, and rub it until the color is gone. Take some sandpaper (fine grit like 800) until it is smooth. The use a buffer on it to get the shine back. Then just put some wax over it

              Thanks Flamin' bird!

Your Car looks really good. So did you just paint the center piece gloss black, and then outline the "firebird" and screaming chicken with matching touch up paint? Whatever you did looks fantastic :D

Anyway thanks for the web address

Stickers? Mine arent stickers. Hmm so you are basically going to try to do something like the Sunfires have right? Where the word Sunfire in the rear is red all the time but you want it to turn on when you break? If you had it on all the time I think it would look cool but dont think it would if it just came on when you brake.

For those of you who want a plain black on you can order one from GM. I cant remember the exact year but its a Formula rear that came completely blank. I know of several people who have bought that and then put custom decals on them.

You're welcome Carldev96 and thanks for the compliment on my old car :D . When I bought the red bird in July of '99 it was in pretty good shape so I didnt have too many swirls. I always took lots of care of the car and LOTS of Zaino so that centerpiece was nice and shiny! I did paint the bird with the GM touch-up paint with a tiny, tiny brush. I also hand-painted little birds on the center caps of my wheels (yeah..they were camaro wheels)

From 93-97 all the Formulas came with the plain centerpiece but what Sandman said would work to get the old stuff off. You can also get those centerpieces from the f-body salvage yards as well
