• Weight difference between stock and fiberglass hood?

Please, someone has to have this answer.......
I have a 97 bird stock icky hood.
I'm preparing for the v6 shootout.
I need to know how much (preferably exact) the weight reduction would be.
Stock vs fiberglass.
most likely 2 3/4 cowl hood

I'm no expert, so don't quote me. But I think the fiberglass ones weigh like 7-8 lbs. at the most. It might tell you on the site your ordering from. It's not gonna give you a lot in the quarter mile, if that's what your thinking about. I would think you would have to lose atleast 100-150 lbs before you could tell a difference. Like I said though, I'm no expert, just tryin to answer your question.

1) light weight k member reduction 40 lbs
2) Light weight a arms reduction 12+ lbs
3) hood........................... 30 lbs?
4) passenger front seat reduction 36 lbs
5) front bumper supports reduction 30+ lbs
6) rear bumper supports reduction 25+ lbs

I'm not 100 % sure on the weight reduction on the hood.
But if we were sticking with those guesses then....
that would be 173 lbs off the car :D

v6 shootout gets mod #1, 2, and 4 for definate.
#3 is a possibility
#5 and 6 I haven't decided yet

James, have you considered "pin-on" fiberglass hoods? they should be lighter than the latched and hinged fiberglass hoods. here's some info from USBody.

My SLP is heavier than the stock hood. So I wouldn't count on any, especially with a cowl.

Don't forget to drain the wiper fluid and fill the tires w/ hydrogen, um what else...
Strip down to your undies and no shoes.

Might be good for another 20 - 30 pounds :D

james, if you want a lighter hood i would definately go with a hood from suncoastcreations....i bought one, i am totally satisfied with it not to mention is looks bad *** .it sits up a lot higher than a stock WS6 hood..and as far as weight..it is unbelievable how much lighter it is...you dont hear the damn thing slam when you let go of it. suncoast all the way
