I'm thinking of getting my car repainted. I do love my black bird but I'm thinking a real old-school candy apple red would look great. Ignoring the cost of the actual red paint, how much would I expect to pay for a good (not great) paint job at a reputable source. Let's say as good as factory.

For a decent quality Cany Apple Red?...between $200 to $400. A gallon of it should do just fine, but you'll need a gallon of primer, a gallon of base coat (usually silver or gold) and then a gallon of candy red coat.
Take a look here on ebay first to get an idea.
Also, to make the paintjob look right, you'll need to paint the inside of the door jambs, rear hatch, engine bay, etc. It's a bit more involved than just painting the exterior.
I recommend this site alot for those thinking of welding, painting & buffing. I've gotten alot of good info there from members.sigpic

why would you want to cough up the huge amount of money to have it painted just to get a "good" paint job? i would recommend a dealership for the quality of a factory paintjob.

Seroiusly...if you want a quality paintjob, you're gonna haf'ta pay for it or learn how to do it yourself. They don't come cheap nor are they easy! Maaco will slap a new paintjob on it for you, but I'll say 80% (or more) of the time, you'll be going back to them in a few weeks with illegal thoughts in your head. Thoughts will even get worse when you're leaving their shop when you find they aren't gonna fix it.sigpic

I almost went to them to get my Cavalier painted... then someone (at Auto Zone) told me not to do it cuz their friend had their car painted by Maaco and the paint chipped off of the car!! Needless to say, I had someone local paint the hood and buff the car out and it cost $300. I just got the car back today. I'm pretty safisfied with it.2004 CE Corvette 10.86@132mph
