  • Moonroof

Hey guys, my 18th birthday is coming up in a couple weeks and I wanted to get a moonroof for my hardtop camaro. Is it possible to do this. I talked to a couple of shops, one said they would do it and reinforce the roof since they would be cutting out the t-bar. Does this sound like a good idea, or will I be screwed if I get in an accident?

Yeah it is possible. I see you are in Cali, I am in Va and there are a few companies that do it here. The only problem I know you will have, is you will not be able to get the protective sliding cover that goes on the inside because the way out interior roof covering is. But you can get a sun roof or moon roof thats functional. Actually I have seen one, at that place that does it and it looks good. He quoted me around 500 to get an automatic unit put in.

I've seen a couple of 4th gens that have done a moon roof. I don't understand why anyone would do it. The car is built to be a T top and T tops look better than a moon roof and are more fun than a moon roof.

Of course, I may not be completely unbiased since I own a T top 4th gen. :D
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

            thats not true:
sun roof opens all the way
moon roof only goes up and back a little to basically just let the air in

personally i would not want to cut the T bar.

T-tops or leave it a hard top imho.

If you do it yourself, doing the T-Top Conversion should cost no more than getting a moonroof. In fact, it could easily be cheaper, depending on how much you shop around.

and T-tops are actually an option for our car, so it'll look better come trade in/sell time

im not saying get the ttops since i dont know a price comparison for sure, but make sure you do a lot of research on prices and such before you get the moonroof. ttops would be more fun for sure, but price plays an issue. also, make sure that they know what they are doing when reinforcing the roof.

Ive looked into both, and I figured putting a moonroof in would be better since I have the t-top trunk filled with my enclosure for my 2 subs. I just wanted to know if it was going to be a major issue with the strenght of my car. I really wish I had t-tops too, but i got the car, 2001 used w/20k miles for only 11k. I couldnt pass it up. I've put the t tops in the rear holders exactly 4 times since I bought the car in 2000. I always put the tops flat on top of the gas tank hump.
