  • opinions on color change, input please

Well, I've been jumping back and forth about what I want to do with my car lately. My front ground effects are chipped to squat, and I am definately getting them repainted. I've been looking over my car though and it has a ton of chips and cracking paint on it(side valences, rear bumper...) The last owner had a maaco silver paint job done on the car and it's beginning to show. I have been thinking about having the entire car repainted to fix things, and I've contemplated doing an unordinary color. I've always liked gunmetal gray. Do you all think that would be cool?
This is what my car looks like now, I like the silver plenty, but just want to weigh my options:

And then this is my Gunmetal mock up I did in photoshop:

This is my first attempt at doing this kinda stuff in photoshop too, so go easy on me if it's a bad chop.
But what do you guys think of the gunmetal color? I think it's kinda cool and would be unique to my car, which is a definite plus. And then hopefully in the future down the road I could add some light silver/pearl ghost flames to it. Anyways, does anyone else think this color would look cool? Thanks for the input!!

man, o man. how did you scratch up those gfx so bad?

anyway, i would have to say the gunmetal color looks really nice. I think a little darker would be better though... that color you have looks almost tan-pewter (or maybe its just my monitor). I still like it though. Check out the gunmetal color volkswagen has on its cars. Ive always thought that would look awesome on a camaro.

Well, I didnt scratch up the ground effects actually, haha. I bought the car from a dude in New York City for a really really cheap price. The paint was one of the points for me getting it so low. Mechanically the car is very sound, but I think the dude skimped some with painting and stuff. The kit was screwed onto the car (not 3M taped) and then looks like it was just painted over without that special gfx flex paint or something. So I think the nasty bumps in NYC caused what would normally be a underside scratch, into chipping paint. I dunno what really happened though, I just figured that would be one of the things I had to replace after buying the car. I'm probably gonna swap it to a Xenon kit still anyways.
The chop isnt a final choice on color still, I was just fooling around in photoshop to get an idea of it. There's a Gunmetal WS6 posted on LS1.com that gave me the idea. I also really like that gunmetal that Ford uses on their Focus's. It's that dark gray with the white sparkles in it. I'm really leaning towards gunmetal in general though since it's a cool color and no one else would have it.

Gunmetal grey would be gorgeous, but be sure you find someone who can *really* paint cars well if you change colors.

Be very careful with who you let touch your paint, 80% of the people in body work right now do half-*** jobs.

Aww man! Someone's already done it to a camaro! His car does look very nice though. I have mixed opinions on it right now. I'm not sure if I should shell out all that money for a color change, or just get the touch-ups done. I was reading the other post about how much a good paint job costs, and I'm not so sure that I can afford those prices. Maybe I oughta start contacting some of the local shops around here. It would look awesome if I could get this done properly. Thanks for the input so far guys!

A really good new paint job should run you about $3000- $5000 and might include the bay and inside the doors etc. If you dont think you can afford it now then just get the gfx painted. You should take the car over to Jimmy in Manassas...the guy that did my flames and painted Steve's rear bumper. He's just off of Euclid Ave. He does body work, painting as well as the custom stuff. Let me know if you want his number/address.

That Bimmer is a cool color too. I just love the gunmetal color in general, dunno why, just looks like an awesome color. I think I've decided to replace my front gfx for the Xenon one, and just have my rear bumper and side skirts repainted for now. Then I'll hopefully save up the money over the next year for an SS hood and hopefully be able to afford the gunmetal paintjob for like next year or something. I know I'll be unhappy if I dont get a good paint job done, so I decided it's better to save up and be completely satisfied in the long run. But I do think I'm gonna go for this color sometime in the future, it's too hot not to
