  • Draggin finger on hood where tons of dust is create damage?

My car was dusty cause I live in PA with lots of pollon and trees so my car was really dusty. My *** friend thinks it will be funny if he writes POOP on my front hood within the all the dust. He said it doesnt create damage, but my brother with a '98 Z28 says it does do damage. I went to the cash wash the next day, bam, all gone really easy. So does it really do much damage?

Rubbing dirty spots on the car can scratch the paint depending upon how dirty it is.

Well whats sand paper? Sand glued onto paper. Whats dust? really tiny sand. Finger turns it into really fine grit sand paper. At least thats the way I always figured it. Thats why you don't wash a car without soap, don't let people sit on or lean on your car (at all) but espesially if it's dirty and don't let people write on it. Yeah anyone can call me an anal prick if they want to but thats my baby.

actually sandpaper is aluminum oxide glued to paper. which happens to be one of the hardest substances known to man (just behind diamond).

its a whole lot more abrasive than normal sand.

but your analogy is correct, moving dirt around on a car will leave hairline scratches.

I flipp out when ppl put their finger prints on my car. Yes it can do damage. I used to mess around when i was younger and write stuff on my parents cars, and my dad almost beat me one time. And said dont ever do that cause you can scratch the paint.

My friend is a school teacher and owns a truck. The kids thought it would be funny if they wrote "wash me" on the tailgate in the dust/dirt that was there. Needless to say, when he washed it, it still said "wash me" on the paint because it was etched in. He had to have it buffed out at a detail shop. It absolutely damages the paint. It is most noticeable on dark colors such as black.
