• brake caliper painting Q

i did a search and couldn't find an answer so here goes, i wanna paint my calipers red, already got the paint just need the time and a few tips to do it. what all is involved in doing this? do you leave the calipers on and paint around it or take the calipers off and paint it then reinstall them? and is a clearcoat really necessary, i hear its no big deal but just curious.

I've painted mine red. Just took a newspaper and a plastic bag to cover the brake rotor and went at it....they look good....clearcoat isn't necessary, neither is high temp paint. I took cheap ole' $1 walmart paint and did 2 coats....

    take your time....

I just painted mine red and I used engin paint from pep boys. I did my front last saturday and did my rear this saturday. I took my wheeles off, unbolted the calapers but didn't disconnect the brake lines because its too much trouble to take the them completly off the car. just take a old sheet and use to cover the rotor. set the calaper on the rotor and use another sheet to cover the rest of the wheel well. It will make a pocket. then paint the calapier. Its not hard just take your time and use common sense and you will be fine.

P.S. My car is pweter and red calapiers look great to me.

Make sure you get all of the old crud off of your calipers before you begin to paint them. A stiff wire brush or some large grit sandpaper works well. Just make sure they are clean before you paint or you will be doing it again real soon. ;)
