• VFN Fiberglass Hood, 11lbs Ram Air + Cowl, what you think?

http://www.vfnfiberglass.com/9301firebird.htm

I'm looking at:
93-97 4inch Ram Air Bolt on hood. Price=450.00 Weight=11

Installed, it would be around 22 lbs I think.. Stock one is around 50! That would be a LOT of weight savings.

At the bottom of the page is the yellow car thats kinda like mine.. however that hood extends to the windshield where as mine would not.

This is one HELL of an agressive hood. Might be a little ricey on my V6.. In the future however I might have a use for its extra clearance. ;)

But considering I run 13's NA and soon 11's on crack, I figure maybe I can be an exception?

My main reason for buying it would be weight savings.... I pulled the wheel off the ground a few weeks ago again and I just want to do it more. I removed my front bumper support which helped. That was about 25 lbs.. I might pull ABS as well. I hear thats 10+ lbs or so.. I also plan to use a dynabatt at the track and might remove my headlight motors/bulbs too..

I want to pull the tires more.

What do you guys think?

4 inch is high but the price is real good, and from 50 lbs to 22 lbs, its nice

They do have full bodies there, and I DID think about it.. But I figure my times would be pretty worthless to people if its run in a 2400 lb car.

Yea, its a BIG hood

It's DEFINATELY unique.

The cowl would definately help engine cooling which is another HUGE plus.. But main thing is light weight.

I'd also have to spray the motor a HECK of a lot more to win races as my plate says TRYMY V6 and I might look pretty damn ricy with that sucka if I lose the race.

I already cruise around on slicks and skinnies everyday anyway.

Imagine this...

with a big *** intimidator hood.

hell, if in the future you ever wanted longer intake runners and volume, you'd be able to fit it underneath that hood, or move the engine up a few inches and fit the GTP supercharger as well as a air-to-water intercooler under the hood no prob.

I think you should get it. Its look sweet and your have the numbers to back it up and justify having it. ANd it leaves lots of room for additional future work. Go for it.

It is a bit too much in my opinion.
The ram air is great.
The cowl is a bit too wide for me.
But, it is 11 pounds!!!!!
In jersey the legal cowl height is 2 3/4 inches.
Cops do bust your balls here for cowl hoods being too high.
Are there legal height limits in your state?
They do have the stock hood at 11 lbs.
If they made a 2-3 inch cowl hood with a narrower cowl I'd be in!!!!
Big difference in the nose and airtime!!!!

I say get it, havent seen that many
Also, like you said, you may need the clearance anyways in the future
but hey, to cut down on front end weight, buy some lightweight a-arms and a k-member
look here for some descent prices:

Actually the hood is like 23 lbs I think where as stock is around 48.

That hood extends to the glass.. I will get the shorter version.. still will be pretty high though. I have no idea what legal is though.

I am pretty sure I'm getting this beast.
