What's a good shammy (no idea how to spell it) or anything to dry off the car. I've been using 100% cotton towels, but I want something better.

Use a product called The Absorber, I have one and it is great. Its a lot better than a chamois (thats how you spell shammy ;) ) With a chamois you can't wash it very easy if you get it dirty and the Absorber does just as well if not better than it.
Hope this helps :D

There are advantages to the towels. The high-pile nature of the towels prevents scratching from dirt. If you don't get everything off the car when washing, your drying towel/chamois will pick it up. If that happens, the towel's loops can act as a buffer and not rub the dirt over the car. With a chamois there is no buffer and scratching can occur. I assume since others have had luck with the absorber that the material doesn't scratch, but that would be my other concern with artificial driers.

Why don't you like the towels you are using? I don't have any trouble drying my car with a single bath size towel.

Maybe it leaves waterspots? I dunno, but I reccomend using the Towel/Absorber method. First make a swipe w/ your towel, then go back over it w/ the absorber. It works reaaal good.

Worked in a detail shop polishing cars for 4 years, TOWELS only. I use my old worn out bath towels because they actually absorb water better than a new towel will.

my 2 cents

Don't like towels because they leave lint on the car. Also, once they get wet you can't wring them out and keep going, you have to get a fresh towel. With the Absorber, you can keep wringing the water out of it without damaging it. I can COMPLETELY dry my car in < 10 min. w/ no spots, streaks or scratches.

When I'm washing my car, after I'm done hosing all the soap off, I unscrew the nozzel and then just poor the water starting from the top of the car down and it all pretty much just runs off the car. Only a little bit of water is left so using a towel is the best for me, takes me only a few mins and the car is completely dry.

Right now I'm using a big cotton bath towel. It gets most of the water of, but still leaves streaks and about 10% of the water. I need something to get the car from damp to dry with no spots or streaks.

I think I'll pick up that absorber thing.

How much water are you leaving on the car? Like 96 T-top Bird said, if you use a low pressure water rinse at the end, you will minimize the amount of water on the car to remove. When I finish drying my car, my towels are usually only damp. If your towels are soaked before you finish, you may be leaving more water on the car than you need to. If you use a high pressure spray to wash and rinse the car, you will be left with tons of small water drops all over the car. When I use the low pressure rinse, I usually only have a handful of drops on each surface.

That's a good tip. I'll try that this weekend.
