  • need brighter lights!

Hey All, I guess I must be one of the newest members. I just bought my first camaro last week. Its a white 94' 3.4 litre, ultra-stock in near mint condition. I live in Montreal, Canada where the winters get pretty cold and snowy, however, the car has never been winter driven and I'd like to keep it like that. I'd hate to see the salt on the roads rust away this beautiful car! It's sitting in the driveway under a few inches of snow right now. I've already begun planning a few mods, nothing major to start off. The first thing I want to do is replace the headlights with brighter ones. I went to my local Canadian Tire and I was surprised to see that you can find only the normal replacement bulbs for this model year. I was wondering if anyone knew where I might be able to find brighter bulbs for cheap and if changing the bulbs necessarily requires some sort of conversion to the headlamps? With a quick search on google I found someone trying to sell a conversion kit for nearly 70 bucks American. I was hoping for something a little cheaper, so if anyone could help me out, that would be great!

No one has anything to say about this? Does anyone have any advice about brighter headlights?

HID headlights are what you need I believe...But I don't know about the older 4th gens...I'm having a problem with headlights myself...I have halos and they LEAK fricken water. =/
But yeah, if HID is too much, just try buying brighter bulbs. I have sylvania ultrabright ultra white silverstars. they're great.

you can drop in HIDs pretty easily with a camaro... but you have a problem with the cutout if you just put HID bulbs in. Basically it blinds everything in front of you, you're supposed to have a metal plate on the top 50% of the housing to prevent this. Easiest way is to buy projectors and drop those in, but with a camaro, it's going to be VERY hard making this look nice. I did it on my firebird, but thank god it's a popup headlight design. No one sees the housing, only at night, and then they can't tell.

oh my bad i see it now..

I plan on replacing my headlights with hella driving / fog lamps, they are the same rectangular shape as the factory headlights , just a slight bit larger.. and they are very much brighter than the factory setup.

              They sell them on ebay..
Check it out, im not sure on the price but its really pretty simple to do.

Where did you guys get Silverstars that fit the Firebird? I couldn't find any anywhere.

There's no such thing as Altezza-style front lights... unless you're actually putting Altezza headlights on your car...

Ive been having the same problem. I need to find some replacement headlights, and they just dont seem to make them for the 4th gens. I have a '96 RS 3.8, and no luck at all. The only option I considered was actually glueing in a set of silverstars into the housing of the OEM headlights. How hard is it to replace the whole headlight housing with something aftermarket? (from people that have done it)

i have never seen the 93-97 headlights up close or under the hood but it sounds like a pita to do anything with the headlights...everyone should convert to 98+ front clips.. =)

I ordered new lights off E-Bay from Pro-Street Lighting in California for my '95. They are excellent - way brighter, hot white light. They are a factory fit light with changeable bulbs - you can then put a variety of bulbs in once you have the light units.

He has them to replace the high-beams as well but I didn't bother as I am putting driving lights in the fog light slots.

Hey Publican, I've searched "pro-street lighting" on ebay and ebay motors. Haven't been able to find them. Wondering if you could tell us what lights you bought exactly? Were they just the bulbs, or the headlamps? Thanks a lot!

                              http://www.prostreetlighting.com/english/

Nothing new there. Just the same old blue coated lights that are out there. ("HID look"...heh)

Either that or one of those now mythical LT1 Camaro TRUE HID kits re-emerged recently, which I doubt.

After taking a look at Pep Boys, Autozone, and O'Reilly's yesterday and seeing how hard it is to find H4351s and H4352s without having to order at least a high and a low beam....those Hella Optilux lamps (not the painted bulbs by known as Optilux) are looking quite inviting.

The FF75 swap was neat looking, but since GM planned the Camaro to have an 8 bulb (or lamp) setup, four Hella Optilux 2020s should make up for lost time....figuring out the finer points of the wiring (how many switches, etc) will be interesting, though not dificult.
