• One of the most important steps IMO is the Claybar. You're gonna need a claybar to get the contaminents out of your paint that you can't see. They are there even on a new car! Such things as rail dust, brake dust, airborne pollution, bug parts, etc... etc. You already have one so that's great
• You can choose the "pre-polish" you want. There is Z1 which is an application style, meaning that you apply it directly to your car. There is also a new product called ZFX, which is an additive that you mix with Z2/Z5 to cut cure time down to about 30 minutes, which is especially useful in cold areas where to polish takes longer to dry. Another benefit of using ZFX is that you can do multiple coats in one day.
• The polish you want is really up to you. Since you have a darker colored car I'd strongly suggest Z2 AND Z5. I use Z5 on my car and the swirls are almost gone, albiet my car wasn't taken care of for 4 years.. After you use Z5 make sure to put on some Z2 to get the best shine!
• Z6 is a must. For use in between applications or after a wash, after rain, etc. It helps to bond the layers together as well as enhance the shine.
• Z7 is the car wash. It's only a car wash but it DOES help. I bought it and it works great I used it on my grandparents car and it looked better after I just washed it than when it is just waxed (with whatever wax my grandparents car gets).
• That's about all you'll need, unless you wanna get Z16 (tire dressing) or one of the glass cleaners (which does contain mild abrasives). If you have leather, order the leather products as well ;) :D

Also, see the link that will be bumped for more detailed product descriptions ;)

If you by chance, have any questions....post them in this thread / ask in a new topic / email me or Jen.

Ok, thanks for clarifying Sandman. I'll have to try Zaino after I finish the bottle of my current wax.

By the way, since we're on the subject, I'll ask a few questions:
Would it be ok if I only used Z3 and Z6 on my car (or would you have a different recommendation)? Should I take off all the wax I already applied to my car with dish soap, or leave it on? Thanks.

Yeah 91, no problem. Is your car clearcoated? I'm not familiar with Z3 with Z6 (since I've never had to use this combo). Go to www.ls1.com and then forum, appearance section. Email the moderator (KevinSS) and ask him that question.

Edit - yes you will have to wash your car with dish detergent in order to strip off all of the wax on the surface now. The reason you do this is because Zaino can't bond with the silicones and materials contained in wax.

Ok i like my tire gel..im a sucker for super shiney and glossy tires and the stuff i use is good for about 2 washes so no Zaino tires stuff

my question is the Zaino Swirl remover(Z5) that awesome!! My car has nearly no swirls on it thasnks to washing it in the garage but is developing a few..I also have a few places on the back fenders from gravel from a unfortunate street race...i was thinkin id try the 3M product for the swirls cause its least expensive and ive heard great reviews

PS will be ordering tonight from KevinSS so help me finalize my list..hehe

91 -- The only difference between Z2 and Z3 is that Z3 contains an additive that helps prevent oxidation of non clear coated paints. You will need to apply Z1 before either one, or use the ZFX additive. Yes you have to order more than one product. A minimum start would be
Z1 or ZFX
Z2 or Z3, or Z5 for swirl marks
Z6 Gloss Enhancer.
Z7 Wash

Highly recommended Clay Bar, and 3M swirl mark remover #39009 if you have heavy swirl marks.

The reason why your car has swirls is from improper cleaning supplies - such as sponges to wash and bad towels to buff. Make sure to order a pack of towels too ;)
3M is a really strong product and will thin out your clearcoat. This is like a last resort. Z5 should do just fine.

No, my car doesn't have a clear coat, it's just a regular paint finish. Thanks Sandman and edz for the information.

Zaino is king,
but if you guys can find "paint seal" from a company called Admar it too works really good, gives a really nice shine. I buff and wax cars all day at our detail shop and that stuff is great.
