  • Anybody removed their factory GFX package?

I did a search before posting, but didn't get the answer I was looking for.

I'm considering buying a '99 Camaro for my son for his 16th birthday this week that has the GFX package. He thinks he would like it better without them.

Has anyone removed them before? And where there any telltale signs they had been removed?

It has the chrome 5 spoke wheels, excellent paint, all options w/T tops, 118k miles (owned a girl, his cousin) for 5k. Does this price sound reasonable?
Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

That price seems around blue book. If the car runs well and you know its history I wouldn't mind paying that much. Especially since it's from a family member.

I can't give you a good answer for the body kit coming off clean, but if you do decide to take it off you can sell a factory painted kit for a pretty decent price.

i think their held on by double sided tape and clips of some sort. shouldnt be hard to take off. and yea, you could make a decent amount of money on them if you sell them. im sure someone will chime in and know the answer for certain. i know theres clips though.

that sounds like a fair price to me, and im 100% positive you could find someone to buy the ground effects on this website, especially if they are in good condition.

Loser is right, they're held on by clips and double sided tape. You'll probably need some goo-be-gone or something to get the tape off, and the clips do leave holes where they were drilled in, but they aren't visible.

The factory GFX are extremely overpriced from GM, so I'm certain that you'll be able to sell them quick for a pretty penny on here.

I'm pretty sure there are no PM's on this site.

The ground effects are also held on with pop rivets and screws. I say leave it alone. The car will look better with them. And you'll save yourself a lot of aggrivation.

Light Metallic Pewter. He thinks it looks better without them. I personally would leave them on.

You probably don't want to hear this, but taking the ground effects off is not a simple 'clean up the double sided tape' ordeal. the 98 & up GFX are attached differently than the 93-97 cars. Along the entire front, sides, and back of the car the pieces are held on with brackets that are actually riveted into the car. If you remove the pieces and the brackets, you'd be left with 50ish holes around the bottom of the car. It might not be so bad if it was black, but it would be super obvious on pewter.

So either keep looking for another car, or be prepared to shell out some $$ :(

p.s. the price sounds very reasonable.

But I had to laugh at the 'owned by a girl' statement. I would never sell my car, but if I did, I'd pity the person who bought it, I drive the hell out of it and take it to the track every week!! haha
