• For all those with ground effects!!!!

I really want the Wings West ground effects for the 93-97 camaro, but i know the front spoiler is very low. i have 16 inch trans am rims on my car,. and think its pretty low. how do u get ur car worked on, for example in the mechanics garage, how can one get the car up on the lift without scraping., what about oil changes and other practical things that would be hard because the car is soo low. i really think they make a car, but dont want em if they're a real pain in the a$$. thanx

I don't have any problems jacking the car up for oil changes or on lifts, it will clear it by an inch or so. My car isn't lowered.

shops often use special ramps... at least for mine. They referred to them as "corvette ramps"

I cant use my old floor jack any more. It was pretty big. I have to use my spare jack that came with the car. Its no big deal for me though, i just stick the air wrench on that baby and the car shoots right up. Then i stick it on the stands as usual.

I had to find a mechanic with a drive over lift. Basically, some shops have lifts that are recessed into the ground so when you drive over them it's level with the ground.
Also, I've had a few mechanics that have long metal ramps that the put on the ends of their lifts. It makes it so you have like an 8 foot plank to drive up and it's such a small incline that you wont scrape. If you ask most mechanics, then they would be able to do that.

As far as working on my car, I have no problem jacking mine up with a regular floor jack. I have to just lift the weight up a hair to slide the jack to a lifting point. It was a little hard for me to find a mechanic when I first got my car cuz it was lowered. If you have a mechanic that you really like though, just ask him about using some long ramps for getting your car up on the lift.

well i can get my jack in, very carefully....
as for mechanics... i have to make sure they put something between the frame and the ramps so they don't scratch up the gfx...

I'm like the rest, the shop will have some lift to lift it. My floorjack just barely clears it. All you really need to worry about are hills and little dips in the road and most of all CURBS!!!! The day I got mine put on I pulled up too much and scraped the crap out of it. In regular driving all you hit is the bigger air dam they give you. And another thing I'm having the worst trouble with is getting the bodykit to stick to the damn car, I've redone the front and back pieces 3 times, I called a guy at Wings West and he told me the next time I redo it to use this stuff called Robot(advances the adhesive). Its all worth it for the looks though.

Its not that big of a deal - I just stand and watch them drive the car onto the lift. I give em the ole Mad Eye Moody look if they start to do something wrong.

I have the stock gfx and I've never scrapped them on anything. The airdam thing in the front of the car gets scraped a LOT though. Mostly going in and out of driveways around Norfolk, cuz this damn town floods when it drizzles and all the streets are bulged up in the middle so water doesn't sit (even though it does anyways). The back and sides of my car have never even come close to scraping. As for jacking it up, I use some long ramps and put them on top of a little hill in my driveways so the angle is even less, then when I pull up on em my front end is like 2 2 1/2 feet in the air! Makes for an easy oil change.

well if your car needs to be towed for some reason, the companys won't tow the car cuz it was too low :D ,and once I went to TireSPlus store to change my tires and the front gfx fell of without them telling me  they used some yellow glue to glue it back on

Even a flatbed tow truck will be tough... you need to have a couple guys lifting the frame in the front so you dont' nose dive and one in the back so your exaust pipes dont' drag along the ground :(

Hope i never have to get towed

Here's a little trick I figured out workin on my buddies RS. If you have some spare wood setting around in your garage, get it. Grab a couple short 2"x4"s and lay them on the ground in front of the front tires (like ramps), then just drive up on them. You can stack on another 2"x4" if you need additional height. Just drive up on them, and then you can slide the jack up under them alot easier.

I have the Wings West kit on my RS and its gotten a bit beat up- the whole car is gettin re-painted this winter anyway.

As for ramps- i cant do em with normal ones- i guess i gotto get the long ones.

As for lifts with the 4 arms, ive had to buy some wood blocks to put on the pads so that the arms dont crush the side ground effects.

Lastly, for a jack- i cant do it- when i bought my car, my mechanic said i have WS6 spring in the thing- sits really low. I gotto drive the front onto a piece of wood to get it high enough for the jack.

Even with all the extra work, the body kit looks bad *** !
