I never realized how hard it is to maintain the beauty and shine of dark colored cars. My Firebird is white, so even if it's already 3 years old, the paint still looks like new. I can't see any swirl marks on it. And it still shines like it came off the showroom floor.
Well, last year I bought a dark blue Civic to retire my Firebird from my harsh commute, and even though the Civic is only 1 year old, it looks like it's been through a sand storm. There are so many swirl marks and fine scratches on the paint. It looks ok on a cloudy day, but in bright sunlight it looks awful.
I spoke with a detailer, and he told me to use microfiber towels to wash and dry my car. He said that the microfiber pulls the crud in, while a wash mit keeps the dirt on the surface.
Has anyone heard of this? Is a microfiber towel really better than a wash mit? Or is he just -ing me? I don't know what to think because he's a detailer. He makes money when people scratch their cars. Why would he tell me something that may cause him to lose my business, right? (Why use a detail service if your car has no scratches.)
So which is better for car washing: A wash mit or a microfiber towel?
