• Newbie questions please help.

Hi there. I'm a newbie to V6 F-bodys but not F-bodys in general. I've had my 88 IROC for going on 5 years and I'm very active on some other F-body boards. Anyway, just a couple questions that you guys may be able to help me with. I'm looking for a 98-02 V6 camaro (possibly firebird) for a summer daily driver. The car must be a stick and must have t-tops. I know not all of my questions are appearance related by this seems like the best forum for them so here goes:
1. Was leather available in the V6 cars?
2. Were V6 cars available in Hugger Orange and Sunset Orange Metallic like the V8 cars?
3. Were there any options available on V8 cars that were not available to the V6 cars (foglights, Monsoon, etc)
4. What did the RS package consist of?
5. Were rear disc brakes available?

Pretty much I'm looking for the most loaded V6 manual car I can find with all the options in either black, orange, or sunset orange. The car will probably end up with a turbo kit eventually but for now I am just tired of driving my POS cavalier when the weather is nice and there is no snow on the ground. Thanks a ton for the help.

Discs came along with the Y87/W68 package. I dont know if rear discs could be had without that package.

4. *Edit* Between '98-'02 The 900 or so RS's produced were only available in '01 & '02. They did not come with the body kit or spoiler. The SLP RS consisted of stripes, upgraded suspension and dual exhaust.

All 98-02 cars had 4 wheel disk brakes and I believe SOM wasn't available until 2001.

I am pretty sure they exist but rare...

Just to warn you, not sure your gonna find what you want.

5-speed cars with options are rarish. On v6s, 5-speed is considered bare bones.

honestly I think I have one of the more "optioned" 5-speeds. My dad when he went to buy this car new, all he wanted was 5-speed and t-tops, and the color. He looked everywhere, best he could do was choose between my car, 5-speed and a hardtop and a Firebird that was an A4, and t-top. He went for the 5-speed.(I added t-tops when it was mine)

was a 2000 5-speed non-y87 with clothe seats and a hardtop.

but it did have...
foglights
cruise
power doors/win
rear defrost
monsoon

IF your getting a 5-speed don't worry about y87... only differnece really is the steering rack(and I think on newer ones its the same) and lsd. BUt you can get factory lsd installed pretty easily.

If I were you, I'd look for a 5-speed, t-top car in the color you want. Preferably with power windows/locks.

Then convert the interior to leather, add lsd, and maybe add the body kit if you really want it or not.

If not you are going to be looking forver for your car, especially if its SOM or Hugger orange. Which even then I think you are going ot have to look hard to find either of those, forgetting and nitpics about options.

btw, I have only seen on hugger orange v6, was on a lot, like 5 years ago.

eric's right 5-speed cars are had to find optioned. when i was looking took me 6 months to find mine. i wanted 96+, 5 speed, t-tops, and a 3.8. i found a couple blue ones, but they had no options or t-tops. i wound up driving 130 miles to get mine out in ohio. i wound up getting lucky i got everything except the monsoon and sport apperance package(maybe a few others). i did get leather too ;) .

i did see a SOM camaro rs at the dealer that was an 01 but automatic.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm in no rush to get the car and I'm willing to travel to get it. My girlfriend works for an airline so I can fly anywhere I need to for cheap and driving the car back would be a fun road trip. I guess I'll just keep my eyes peeled for my prefect car

a also agree with eric's claim of the 5-speed being bare bones models because mine was bare bones (no options whatsoever). didn't even come with foglights (which according to edmunds comes standard).

hehe my 94 was I think the most barebones car you could get...

94 no fog lights, no cruise, 3.4L hardtop, crank everything, hell people offered me money for my "foglight delete grills" because they were a 1LE thing...

You can keep looking but honestly to find one used like you want is gonna be hard, hell I think if they were still new it woudl be hard to find.

It woudl be alot easier to find a ls1 with the stuff you want.
