Door is cracking?

My passenger side door on my 2001 firebird is cracking. What sucks is my car just went out of warranty. So any body know what GM warrantees there body for? Its by close by the lock and keeps getting bigger every day and the door hasn't been hit or anything. This is really pissing me off. Since the car has been in the shop about 70 times since ive had it for almost 8 months and every time its in for something major and it still runs rough! If they wont do anything how much would it cost to get fix? Its about 3 inches long. Also it just started to happen after they put new power windows and new door panel on that side. So iam thinking they Fed it up! But let me know iam really thinking of selling my car. Since its been in the shop more then ive drove it! It onlu has 37000 miles!

I presume you did not buy it new? Was it a lemon law problem from the previous owner? The seller would have to dislose "lemon" status to you.

...and really 70? 70 visits out of 240 days of ownership? That seems alost imposible. 70 times in the shop. I can't imagine what would take 70 visits to a repair place. I don't think I've been to 70 repairs in my whole life with all my cars.

Nope not new but it was never sold before when i bought it. It was used as a dealer car down in south FL on the beach. Its not a lemon cause i car faxed it. Also its had everything replaced new water pump fuel pump. Both windows have had regulators and motors replaced about 6 times each and the power mirros. Power sterring pump whole sterring linkage and the list goes on and on. The last time it was in i got 18 pages of work they did on it. And they had it for over a week! It just sucks its in the shop more then i have driven it. But thats that.

damn man, sounds like its possessed, or the dealership service dept. sucks.

talk to a rep from the dealer directly, in person, and explain the problem. Bring in paperwork too, that helps

Sounds like my car.lol Except GM gave us a free extended warrenty since we had so many problem with the car. The paint had orange peel and was peeling in some parts. Rear-end went out twice. Regulators were changed, went through 5 t-tops. That is just a few. Oh yeah, the scred up the door alignment after they jacked up the car wrong. And the wiper motor went out when it rained (a few f-body had to be recalled after this). If they took the door panels off and put them on wrong they will crack, thats what happen to mine. So beware the dealer! One other thing, mine is going back for painting because of the paint is peeling again.

LOL yea my doors have both had the alignment done a few times. And the back hatch window was just replaced. Since they did something to my rear heater and it left a burn mark in the window! LOL wenbanfirebird01 my car is a sunset orange firebird. Its a 2001 to. Mybe its the color LOL. I got a extended warranty. Threw car max where I bought it from. But I don't think it covers body cracks!

Kham is you drls melting. Mine are. I only have about 22k mile on the car so its pretty low. But it sound like we got the first sunset orange birds.

my buddies 99 Formula has the same problem, his drivers side door panel cracked at the top by the window and his car is VERY well taken car of, i think it has around 28000 miles and it cracked, he tryed to fix it by holding the crack together and melting the plastic behind it w/a saudering iron, the crack stayed together but the texture is gone now.....

NAh its not the door panel. I had both of those replaced since they both cracked. But this is the outside door by the outside lock hole. Its cracking there in the fiberglass door its self. ANd its getting bigger every week!

You may want to take it somewhere independent and have them make sure it has not been wrecked and then fixed "under the table". A friend of mine had a Dodge minivan he bought new, and then after about two years it suddenly started falling apart. He took it to a body shop and they pointed out where it had been repaired. After confronting the dealership he found out that it had taken a nose dive off the truck when they were unloading it and the frontend had been smashed. They ended up giving him a brand-new car off the showroom floor to shut him up. The dealership closed not long after that.

Rob Bell that's a good idea. Iam going to have that checked out. But the dealer is going to fix the door. They say its there fault. When they did the window they did something. Since its cracking from the inside out. They said they would have to re paint the whole door and fix it. But if its bad they will give me a whole new door. So that's always good. Now got to take off work today and take it to the shop.

Well took it to the dealer today and they said my car has been in a major wreck. The back panel is a replacment and so is the front. Also the paint is way thicker on the pass side then drivers side. And the paint is a diff shade on the pass side its darker. Also they showed me where they welded in a panel and all. So iam going to go get a new car tonight or this weekend. Since my car sucks. So no more f bodies for me unless i find a used transam!

That sucks that your car was wrecked man. Is the dealership going to buy it back or are you going to have to trade it in as a wrecked vehicle? Good luck finding a used Trans-Am. They're going for suprisingly cheap right now if you look hard enough!
