Ok, this may seem a little weird, but what I want to know is if an aftermarket manual shift knob will slide over the stick for one of our automatics? Perhaps one of you with an auto for a f-body and a manual for someother type of car/truck could see if the manual knob will slide over the stick for the auto. any help greatly appreciated.

thanks for the links, but still didn't relly find what I'm looking for. I've known about that corvette addapter but it's expensive and I think it isn't needed. Anyones else know? I guess I'll just have to measure the darn thing and find someone with a manual shift knob.

you need to have a way to push the button down. if youre looking to see if a manual knob will fit on your auto, just go to autozone and ask the guy at the desk if you can go testfit the knob. they usually let you do that. i dont see how exactly youll get around the button issue though, or how exactly you plan on making it stay on snug.

I've figured out a way to do it, there wont be a button, you just have to push down on the knob. Too bad none of the places around here will let me test fit it without buying it. I guess I'll just make my own shift knob that I know will fit. thanks guys

            Here is what I did:

I bought a manual knob from Autotechnica (carbon fiber/leather). The knob comes with several plastic inserts that fit inside it to adapt it to different size shafts. I bored out one of the adapters so that it fit closely but not tight on the shifter shaft. I then screwed that adapter into the knob and marked the adpter so that I knew that I would have the knob aligned when I fitted it to the shifter. I removed the adapter and fitted it over the shifter. I drilled a small hole through the adapter and the plastic lever that releases the shifter. I then cut the head off a brad and cut it to length and inserted it in the hole. Screw the knob on and you're set. You just push down on the whole knob instead of a button. It looks sharp and works great.

Thanks, thats kindof what I just did. I used a hollow plastic ball with a drilled out piece of PVC pipe cemented inside of it with a pin holding it in place. Doesn't look too bad, need to figure out what I want to paint on it. Thanks for the reply
