• Painting intake and valve covers

i did a search on this but didnt really come up with the specifics i wanted..since i just bought a P&P intake and my valve covers are coming off this week..i decided im going to paint them red with the "3800II" in white..so the red line will kind of continue down the middle of the car even with the hood up .id like something pretty pro looking and maybe a little glossy..im a little strapped for cash so i dont really want to powder coat them..i've heard of people just buying high temp paint for it..my questions are..

where do i get the paint and what paint is it?

can they catch car color codes?

and finally..is it easy to use?..pretty much just like spray painting anything else?

thanks!

sand them down really good first, then apply a primer. Then wet sand the primer to get it really smooth. Once it is prepped and ready, then hit them with the red paint. When they are bumpy, that is when they look like crap painted.

OK the paint get it at autozone, it's in the paint section (duh) clearly say high heat/temperature engine paint.
I dunno if you can get it the same as you're car but it never hurts to ask.
Yes it is easy to use, strip the paint first for the valve covers with a wire brush or something unless you want the paint to flake off. Then prime the chit outta everything with multiple coats.
Don't forget clearcoat.
Thats about it really

sweeeeeeeeet...sounds easy enough..im not sure i'll have to sand the P&P intake because its brand new from Abbott..i'll have to see when it gets here..looking at SSM's intakes it looks like they "beatify" them..i'll sand the crap out of the valve covers though..so i need sand paper, primer, paint, clearcoat..sounds good..thanks! I used 220, 400, then 1000 on my throttle body. takes some time, but then again I am going for the polished look. For you, you probably wouldn't have to do it as long cuz of painting it. Depending on how smooth you want them.

It really is personal preference. Maybe just touch up the intake if it looks pretty good already when you get it.

I used a wire brush, and another that goes on a power drill.

nice..i've got a drill..maybe i can go to home depot and hook some stuff up for it..i dunno..if the intake is pretty nice when i get it i may just do that..cuz the valve covers are hidden somewhat..so i dnuno if its worth it..but i definitely want to do the upper intake

Hey, check out the last page on my cardomain, we did this to my friends eclipse. No sanding, no primer. (He's really really cheap) Turned out a lot better than i expected. (The "DOHC" and other letters on there are now white)
