help w/ Sanding down ground effects before painting...

I want to sand them down myself before they paint it because i dont feel like giving them the money to do what i know i can do myself ...

Any tips? What kind of sand paper? Grit ?

o i guess i forgot to add... the kit is already painted... im wanting to strip that color off.....

if theres nothing wrong with the current paint and clear on the kit you could scuff it down with some 600-800 grit to get off the old clear. then apply paint and clear. Or you could go the chemical route, but be sure to use fiberglass paint stripper (you can find it at body shop supplie stores or boating shops).

the kit has a differnt shade of my paint...... doenst match... i need to get it painted but i dont want to pay maaco to do it cuz they just wont...... so i need to sand it down myslef first.. then take it to them to paint
