When i start my 96 Firebird , put my foot on the brake and then go to put my car in drive the whole center of my dash jumps up and the shifter comes popping out of park(takes some force to get it to pop out sometimes)Once it is out of park it is fine. What would be causing this?

you mean the center dash piece pops up when you shift it around sometimes? mine does that too. i was guessing maybe the clips broke on it that hold it down. it doesnt really do it to me anymore though. i never really studied it.

It jumps when you switch the gears?
Check the tranny mount under the car to see if its loose or broken. im sort of confused on this. could you re-explain whats happening. im not sure im understanding, or whether its even an "appearance: (eg. the panels are popping around) issue.

i have a 96 Firebird with a 3.8 auto, when i start my car, put my foot on the brake to take it out of park and then push in the button on the shifter , it basically doesnt want to come out of park. With a little force the center console pops up almost like the shifter below is pushing it up, makes quite a racket and definately sounds like something is F'ed up.This is all while im sitting still, once im moving the shifter stays perfectly still.
