Has anyone used anything like this? The paint that changes colors from different angles... Anyways, I've got a chance to get a 99 Trans Am that is painted with this paint, but it has some scratches on it. Wondering if anyone knows how much this stuff costs (roughly) and if it can be touched up. I can post pictures here Sunday night so you can see what I mean. Just wondering if it would be worth getting the car for the price the man is selling it for and then having to pay to have to painted again.

    Thanks for any info

If its anything like PPG harlequin then it is very pricey. The harlequin on my buddies stealth was $60 an ounce. it took about two quarts to paint the car and just the paint was around $4000. I don't believe touch up would be possible for this. If tall the scratches were in one place such as a fender then it would be possible to sand it down completely and possibly match it to the rest of the car.

There is no touch-up that i know of, when it gets painted it has to be painted at different angles to make the effect. So i don't know how you would do a touch up, but my experience with it is only when it first came out on the mustang cobra.

From my understanding and what i have read about the BASF extreme series paint which is the close to same thing it is real easy to repaint becuase the paint acutally has no color to it so it will blend perfectly. The paint is a three step stuff. You need the base coat, then the actual paint, then clear. Go to basf's website and find their info on the extreme paint.

Whew! that was a good one!

Anyway: any body shop that is familiar with the paint can touch it up. 3-Stage paints are VERY common now days, and almost all dealer-related shops go to training for this stuff.

ANY paint can be touched up, even those crazy 12-step Chrysler paints can be touched up. It's all about the knowledge of the person with the gun.

Take some vasoline with you when you get quotes, if you do buy it... you'll take it in the you-know-where to get it done right. Not only is the paint expensive, but the labor is usually doubled or trippled (the time, not the cost) on complicated colors.

Your best (and most expensive) bet is to go to the dealership with the most experienced body men and get a quote from them.

            Good luck!
