• Anyone with aftermarket RAM AIR hood, help me out

I went to a GM dealer today to get a quote on painting the ram air hood. They said that the hood would need to be on the car for 2 weeks so it could cure to the engines heat, before they could paint it. I emailed the guy i am getting the hood from, and he says that you dont have to wait two weeks, you can just prep it and paint the hood and put it on the car. They also want 550$ to do it. I thought everyone else paid between 200-300.

Has anyone else had to wait 2 weeks before their hood could go on. Also how much did everyone else pay to get the hood installed and painted. And where did you get it painted at a local shop or a GM dealer. Thanks for the replies in advance

Well, what im wondering is, if it has to get use to the heat, what about factory hoods? wouldn't they have to go through the same process? I doubt they do, so I would think that you don't have to do the two week thing.

Back when I got my SLP Ram Air hood for my Firebird, the instructions were to let the hood cure for the 2 weeks so that when it's painted the paint won't be harmed if the engine heat causes the hood to expand or contract. I never did let it cure for the 2 weeks and it came out ok but I wouldn't take the chance again. As far as the dealer quoting you a price of $550, that is definately high but as we all know the dealers will jack up the prices considerably. I paid $200 to have my hood painted and installed at a local bodyshop. Goodluck
