  • Suggestions on what to do with Salad Shooters.

Mine are pretty gross. They have some crap on them that looks like someone stuck gum on them, I have no clue what they are. I can't afford to buy rims so this spring or something when it gets warmer I want to make these look better.

So the options seem to be paint them or sand to bare metal and polish.

I'm thinking more towards polishing but will it look good? And how hard will it be to do it?

Either use Goof-Off or Tar & Bug Remover to get rid of the gummy gunk.
As for polishing; Loochy did a good writeup on polishing. Just do a search to find it in this section. Personally, I'd clean them up and Powdercoat them.

Why don't you get rid of them and get a newer style like the ZR1.

I can't afford new rims period. Once I get the car paid off its pretty much save to rebuilt the engine. Plus I would enjoy to get my own place to live.

$1200 on new rims seems a bit wasteful.

Over 1/10 of my current annual income spent on rims seems a tad wasteful.

My bird had those disgusting Pontiac version of the Salad Shooters, they began looking like crap and I hated them with a passion because they looked so awful. My Dad did a little searching and found 4 Rims of Z-28 with tires in great shape for 150$ in a junkyard! You can still get rims that will look better than the salad shooters for a good bargain.

Agreed, Junkyards, or even newspapers, you can usually atleast find the aluminum 5starts for sale, if not alum. chromes. With tires you can get them for $500 easy. Sell your salad shooters with tires for $100 or something, and you'll have yourself a nice little deal.

True. I deliver to a... i don't know what it is, towing company, junkyard thing. I will ask them next time I go there.

But I do like the salad shooters. I saw chrome ones and they looked real nice.

Thinking about polishing them, the center is plastic (the piece that covers the lug nuts), how would I do that with polishing? Use that crappy "chrome" paint?

i dunno if it's just me, but I never cared for the salad shooter rims too much...BUT, if I was to do anything, I would colormatch them to the color of the car with a really nice paint job.
