the paint on my rear driver's side fender is starting to crack. a year ago, i had to have body work done to it because i hit a guard rail 3 months before. and now it's cracking. is this something that a little sand paper and touch up paint can't fix, or am i gonna have to get it repaired? i took some pictures:

id take it back to the shop, thats not good. i wouldnt try sanding it. wet sanding isnt that easy.

can't i just sand down the part that's sticking out and put some touch up paint on it?

depending on how good you are with body work, looking at the first pic its looks pretty bad. by " part sticking out" do you mean theres air under the clear coat causing it to bubble? if thats the case sanding it will make matters worse. im a little confused on your situation. if you do wet sand it, use 2000 grit AT THE LEAST if you can find 2500+ grit go for it. use water and a little soap and mix it around, every 2-3 passes dip the paper in the water. and dip it in the water before you make your first pass.

i just don't want to make a big financial dispute. do you think they will be upset if i take it back?

i dont see why they would, it seems like it was their fault. be nice and polite about it and see what they say.

well, if this happened a few months after they worked on it, i would expect them to do something about it, but it's been a whole year. if i walk in there a whole year later, i don't know if they will take the responsibility.

it wont hurt to go see, either way it seems it was thier fault, a day or a year later.

out of curiosity, what makes paint crack like that? is it because there was small air pockets between the paint and the body when it dryed?

im not sure what the paint is doing exactly. is it just the clear coat? can you feel it? or just see it. is it actually chipping off?

it's not chipping off(yet anyway). the lines(the white part) in pictures you see is actually the paint sticking out. so i can feel it. i really hope i can do this myself.

so its just the clear bubbling out? not the base coat too?
