  • So, my mom backed into my firebird

Four foot long dent in the quarter panel.

I'd like to get a complete new paint job if I can, but I think it will cost too much... currently I only have about 2000 for the whole job.

Any estimates on costs for the repaint/dent repair?

I got quoted 4000 for paint job, 700 for dent removal, but that was from a dealer... I am calling body shops for quotes tommorow.

Edit: For clarity, the dent is door handle height, on the driver's side, right after the door (so toward the back of the car).

thats a rip-off, i'm actually replacing my quarter right now from an accident, insruance company gave me 2800 and that was including a door and bumper, parts, and labor of putting a new qp on. look around, the paint shouldn't be more than 5-600 for a good paint job.

Definitely way high but of course dealers have a reputation of charging way more than the parts or work is worth. 2 years ago my Contour was sideswiped in a parking lot and the body shop I took it to had to reskin my one door and repair the other as well as repair the surrounding areas. Someone tried to back out and didn't make it so instead of adjusting before they took off they simply kept going. Long story short my total bill was around 1300 for a bumper crease that went from the front door all the way back to the front of the rear fenderwell(Found the guy and got his insurance to pay for it). Mind you this is not a Maaco or some other knock off body shop. The place I took my car to guarantees their work for life from defects and actually strips all paint and accessories from the panel to be repainted. Shop around because 4000 dollars to repair or replace just one panel is a huge rip IMO.

What? if it only cost 5-600 dollars to have a car repainted, then everyone in the world would have a fresh paint job every summer. a fully body repaint with door sills for 2K seems nice to me.

are you willing to wait for a quality job?

There is a place that the f-body people RAVE about here in central FL, decently priced, does superb work. But I think there is a wait list.

If you REALLY want I think I can dig up the name of the place...

Where did you get the QP? The dealer I went to told me that you couldn't buy a new one.

you cant get one, its a part of the cars sturcture. I think he is talking about the front fender if i had to make a guess not the rear quater.

I was involved in an accident not too long ago (and by that, I mean someone hit my car while I was parked.. and at work.) messed up the rear QP pretty bad.

For the rear quarter (driver's side) a new hatch, paint, and new tail light I was quoted $2300.

From another body shop, they wanted to repair the QP, rather than replace, they quoted me $1700..
