• Putting old badges on a new car..

Hey- first of all its been a long time since I've stopped by! Site looks great!! I hope everyone's doing well..

Now the question:

I have a set of 1969 Z28 Emblems I'd like to put on my car. Should I actually drill holes iin my car and utilize the 3 "prongs" on the back of the emblems?... or should I shave the prongs off the emblems and use some really strong 3M tape?

I've heard horror stories of both efforts. (tape giving away and emblem falling off in car wash, or someone stealing the emblem leaving holes in the car).

Any advice? I tried searching for this and only got a lot of responses involving people taking the emblems off.

And, yes, I know I have a V8... but this is a very cool message board, and it's just an appearance question. -dont hate me! :D

I have one set of crossed flags from a '67 Camaro on the rear of my'01. I cut the three mounting prongs from the back and used 3M Emblem mounting tape. No problem in over a year. Actually, the tape is the same as OEM.

Cannot comment on the car wash thing -- my Camaro has never been through a car wash and never will go through one.

think of it this way, whats more expensive? buying new emblems after they fell off because they were only stuck on... or having someone steal them after you drilled holes in your car and having to have the car painted and the holes filled in.

Drilling holes = bad news.

stick them on there really good. there are plenty of emblem/badge adhesives to choose from im sure. shave those prongs off!

I think that vintage emblems look awesome on the newer 4th gens...if placed correctly.
Cut the prongs off at the back of the emblems and use 3m tape to apply them to your car. It'll look good and unique!

yeah my buddy bought some 1969 Z28 emblems and put them on his 2000 Z28 with 3M tape and they have been on for 7 months now, no problems..and if you are worried about them commin off, dont take your car through a car wash...hell even if you werent worried about it, i dont understand how you could take it through a car wash..if you do it yourself it looks much better and its not as bad as having a stream of water slamming against your paint..little off subject there i guess. but tape works fine.

Wow. 6/6 for the tape! I'll go with the tape! Thanks for the input. As always, it's much appreciated.

Oh and I have never sent the car through the carwash. I figured it would be about the roughest weather condition possibility for the car though (that mine would come close to... there is no snow here). So that's why I mentioned that.

Thanks. I'll post pics. It may be a week or two before I get free time.
