detailing?

i need to get my new 98 firebird detailed, shes got all sorts of swirls and a couple little niks and scratches. i would do it, but i dont have a buffer or the time to. so i need to take it to a detailer. i was wondering how much it would cost do get it professionally detailed, and would a gm dealer be any good at it? i think 2 around here do detailing, but i dont know how good they are. i just need reccomendations. thanks

but like i said, different detailers have different rates for different services. its hard to say.

I would hang around the shop and ask if you can check out some of the cars they just finished. You can really mess up a car using a buffer if you don't know what you are doing.

Ex. Kid I know got a BMW 8 series (yeah his parents are rich) and he got the paint buffed by some random shop and they burned the paint.

Having a car detailed cost a lot of $$$. A good detail job in Calif cost about $250, and that's just the exterior.

I know you said that you don't have time, but if you can devote just 1 day of washing, clay-barring, re-washing, drying, and waxing your car, you can save a lot of money.

I wouldnt go to a dealership. I work at one and typically they don't buff customer details, they just give it a little coat of wax. All they are interested in is a quick turnaround. I would try to find a bodyshop that does detailing if you dont want to do it yourself. It is kinda difficult to do well yourself the first two times, but you can always start practicing on other peoples cars.

in the summer me and my buddy do detailing and washing at my cuzes shop to do a full detail and buff on a f body wed charge bout 80 or so we do stuff at half the price the other shops around here do it for thats y we put 2 out of business already

i got a quote from an actual body shop today, not too terribly impressed with it, i still want to look around a little.

Shampoo seats and carpet - $100
Clean Engine - $50
Remove Scratches - $80
Wax + Tire Dressing - $100

so it would pretty much end up costing me $180 for what i would do, but i would in the end trust them better than the guy working out of his garage, just my opinion though

the only thing on that list worth paying for is removing the scratches. the rest could be done by anyone with a set of working limbs and a brain.

i dont really feel like hand buffing the wax though, but i may end up doing that, when he says removing scratches, is that the polishing?

theyd be using a buffer and some compound to get rid of yoru swirls and scratches.

Theres a spot here in Indy/Avon about 40 minutes south of you that will completely wetsand and buff your car and do the interior completely for 500$.

They do my bodywork all the time and I would trust them 100% as Ive had more than 4 cars there and my Chevelle will be going there soon for a paint job. Its http://www.quintskustomkolors.com/

I used to work in a bodyshop doing detailing and then I ventured off on my own but a furtile divorce now has all of my tools in the air and I cant get to them yet :-/

My rates were : 300$ or 50$ an hour.

Wash, Claybar, Wash, Polish(removal of swirls), glaze, seal, wax, shampoo interior with heat extraction, removal of interior stains, engine compartment cleaned and treated, and wheels waxed and tires dressed matte finish or glossy.

that sounds good, but i dont have $500 ready to just throw around, how much do you think they would run for just the paint w/wax

Pep Boys sells a 7" hand orbital for like 29 bucks. That and a California Clay bar kit, and a wax and polish job....... with the orbital takes the same amount of time to do if you were to just wax w/ easy on- easy off wax. And the shine is crazy! Orbital is my new best friend.

i tried some cutting cream on it today, didnt help much, its gonna need to be wetsanded or something, it needs professional attention
