suggestions. comments. opinions. windshield scratches :-/

Okay. So I'm driving to work today, and I notice something. My entire windshield, once in perfect condition, now has 2 faint white arches of scratches about an inch wide each caused by my wipers.
The only thing I can think of that caused this was when I tried to clean off my windshield the other day but was out of window washer fluid. My blades swiped dry, 3 times, without fluid. But I didn't think this would cause SCRATCHES!!!#$*&!!&^%!!

So now what?

I've heard about using toothpaste, but I don't know...

i heard toothpaste too. if not try some very fine steel wool or glass polish. it might lighten it up a bit
