  • T-top: do it urself or bodyshop???

I'm considering getting T-tops for my 1997 camaro. I've read a little bit about how to do it yourself, and I find that frightening. The fact that i'd be cutting the top of my car off is kinda scary to me.

So i'm asking the advice of those who may have done this before/had a bodyshop do it for them. If it worth the extra money to get a body shop to do it for you? Or would it be ok to do it yourself? And what would be a good price/are there any ways to lessen that price?

    any info is greatly appreciated.

Thing is I don't think a shop woudl even consider doing it.

Maybe if you sat down and went over all the info with them.

Unless your good with cutting metal and getting it 100% i wouldn't attempt it not only could it leak it could look horrible if not done correctly , be very cautious

you have to be sure that you can do it.

it took me 3 years to grow the b@lls to do it.

i have had it for 6 months now and it seems to be perfect.

its not really that hard. i think that shenanigans and i are the only 2 who have done it our selfs on here.

if you would like to email me i would talk you threw alot of it. daubert19xxx@yahoo.com

i did the cutting, install, body work, painting etc. and i'm just a back yard chick mach. heheh

Its not hard and good luck finding a shop that will do it for anything less than an outrageous price.

I've seen quite a few threads from people who did it themselves.

Plus, MTMike did his t top conversion in the SNOW!!!

If you never take a risk in life, you'll always look back and say "What IF?".
Go for it dude! The worst that can happen is that someone else shows up to show you how to do it correctly. You'll only learn by trying.
                  Yes; It's a project
Yes; It costs a bit of money
But the outcome is worth it! T-Tops are Awesome!!

I beg to differ, the worst thing that can happen is that he messes up a cut somewhere and completely ruins his hardtop car, and there's no going back...

I say go for it anyway.

Ya, well, anything like that is gonna have to wait a lil bit longer...stupid brake cylinder head (sumthin like that) burst and saterated my brake pad with brake fluid, so i'm haveing to get that fixed now... :(

But we'll see. I'm gonna have to talk to my dad about it some more.

                      Thx for the info

It really isn't as hard as everyone thinks. Ask Kristen. She did it to her camaro and they came out nice!

IT'S NOT HARD, just take your time and the secret is cut and leave extra length that way you can see where to trim too.
