  • curb rash question!

i got some curb rash on one of my wheels the other day. i think it may be too deep for me to repair myself but i was just wondering if anyone knew the best, or any way for that matter, to repair curb rash? sand and polish? or should i just try to take it to a professional to if its fixable?

    Re: curb rash question!

I wouldn't waste my money fixing them if they are stock rims.

They aren't stock rims, check his cardomain site. I would take the car to a professional and get an estimate. Can't hurt to ask how much it would cost and then go from there. I was given an estimate of 150 to completely redo one of my stock 1994 z28 rims..so obviously I didn't get it done.

yeah they aren't stock. thing is, i think i might be able to get a new one for $150. so if the estimate is over that, then i'll probably just get a new one. but then what do i do with the old one? is it worth tryin to sand and polish out the scratches? i don't think that they are too deep, but then again i'm not a professional. what kind of places would do that though? i have no clue where to check.

I was able to repair curb rash on 3 of my 17"x10" Smoothie II's. Are the wheels you have clear coated or are they aluminum? If they are polished aluminum and not clear-coated/painted, you should be able to fix them. I was able to sand out the scuffs (one wheel was scuffed up bad) and polish them back up...you couldn't even tell.
I did a How To on how I did it. Here's the link:

that's the write-up i was looking for too! just was in too much of a hurry to find it the other day.

well i don't have any pics but i'll get to my camera sometime soon and take a few. the wheels are painted but the scratches are on the lip and not anywhere else on the wheel. i try to post some pics soon.
