  • Newbie question on Rear Seats

    Hello everyone!
First off, let me send my sincere thanks to everyone for all the great information posted on this BB.
I am a proud new owner of a 2001 Camaro RS. I have religiously read each and every post on this site to learn all I can and all the knowledge here is just incredible. Ultimately the knowledge all of you posted led me to self-install a Whisper Lid, SSRA, new Head Unit and 4 new speakers. Never in a million years would I have attempted to perform any work on my own, but the clear guidance on this site gave me not only the knowledge but the confidence to perform the work on my own! Thank You!

Now, to my question... I noticed today while installing the rear speakers that the rear seats are not anchored down. In fact, the rear seats tilt upward towards the driver and passenger, but the actual seat is not anchored down. Is this typical? What is the purpose of this?
Just by looking at the rear seats, in my opinion it has a very "un-clean", un-finished look.

Yeah, the seats usually have one bolt in the bottom of the front edge, but nothing else holding the back down. No clue about why they're not mounted more securely but I guess someone's rear will hold them down just fine.

That's a special feature for people who modify their vehicles. Less bolts to fuddle around with. :D

does anybody sell custom sub boxes for when you remove the rear seats I removed mine and would like to fill up that empty space to make it look better. I will even settle for a rear seat delete box long as I can put both of my 12 inch subs in them

No one makes a rear seat delete... so you'd have to make your own. Im doing one, but its not gonna be holding any subs so its gonna be pretty simple and light.

plywood, (particle board if its for a sub box), screws, some wood to support it and make the frame... carpet.. thats about it.

yeah, MDF (medium density fiberboard) works the best for the tighest sub boxes. I'll make some eventually but it'll be a while down the road. Want to eventually mold some fiberglass into a rear seat delete/speaker enclosure.
