Just painted my calipers and they look like ***. Take a look

I was painting my calipers and started to here some thunder so I rushed the coats to try and get it done quick (I was using a brush so that was a bad idea) so heres how they came out











Im so mad at myself for doing that because I really know better

I am about to get the whole car repainted and was wondering do body shops/custom shops usually paint calipers? Im asking because they are closed right now and I cant call and was wondering if anyone has had a body shop paint theres. I figure they would be able to do a better job cause they could pull them off and sand them and repaint and I really dont want to mess with them anymore.

im sure they could, and yeah they do look kinda bad. they black looks like gray and you got some paint on your brakes

Yeah they look terrible:mad: I wasnt worried about the brakes though because I have new rotors and brakes coming in soon so they are being replaced.

did you sand them at all first? did you put down a primer coat? also the paint on stuff is junk. save the money of having the body shop do it and take some time to do it the right way. take a dremel and sand them down, spray some brakleen on there to clean away all the dust, put down a coat of primer, spray on a few coats of color, then a couple coats of clear. use only the spray paint kind. if you do it right it comes out much better. you can just run down to pepboys and they'll have everything you need. just look for high-temp paint and your set.

yeah i dont see why not. i got a dremel kit for christmas and it has sanding bits so thats what i used but that thing looks like it would work

Cool ill just go to a hardware store tomorrow and see if I can find something like that.

Looks like you dipped them in crude oil. ... speaking of which, that would actually be a cool idea, cuz then everytime you hit the brakes the calipers would catch on FIRRRREEEE!!! :burn:

I didnt primer mine, i sanded the hell out of them, then washed them off.. and used several like 5 coats of high temp black, they turned out good... just take your time & dont rush yourself... luckily your painting them black and they arent super obvious... i painted mine black becuase they were like rust colored before and they look 1 million times better

they dont have to be perfect...

I talked to the body shop and they said they would pull them off and sand them smooth and respray the calipers black and the brackets pewter for me for $225.00. I know thats alot but I would rather them do them and definatley look good than go through the agravation of messing with them any more.

You really shouldn't even need to sand them (although it's not a bad idea by any stretch of the imagination.) I got some harsh degreaser and a metal bristle brush and they cleaned off nicely, and didn't look rough like yours.

It looks like you didn't put enough coats on and you didn't get them clean enough beforehand. In dry conditions a coat of engine enamel should dry in 30 minutes to an hour. 3-4 coats should do it. Then apply 2-3 coats of clear.

do NOT pay that much, thats a rediclous amount of money. take some paint thinner, get all the old paint off, sand with like 40 grit, then 80, then work your way up to around 150 or so and then primer and paint, they'll look great. use light coats and your'll be fine.

I know that thats alot to pay but its worth it to me to not have to mess with them any more and know that they will come out really good.I just work to much and am always tired so I would rather just pay someone.
