Ok its reallyy scratched up and needs to be painted. Me and my buddy wet sanded it a lil to test, came out realll smooth. Is it a very difficult process JUST to pain the bumper. I have the spray gun already and everything. What it be fairly easy to do if we took ou time with it?

Re: Painting Bumper
First off, remove the bumper (if possible) and take it to the area where you'll have plenty of room.
Prep-Work is EVERYTHING!!
Sand the whole bumper down with 150-220 grit sandpaper to remove most of the exterior clearcoat and paint.
After you remove the paint, move to 500 grit sandpaper to smooth out the gouges caused by the heavier sandpaper.
After sanding:
Cheese Cloth the area to remove dust, dirt & debris. You CAN use a primer from a spraycan. Spray on and check for imperfections. My theory is, whatever exterior color you're using as the exterior, try to match it with the color of primer. Example: White, silver, & pewter colors, I like to use a Light Gray Primer. Black, burgundy, & dark purple colored exteriors, I like to use a Black Primer. ~Although I used a light colored primer on my dark exterior. I got lazy and din't want to make a run to the store.
Lay down about 3 light coats of primer. If you have any runs, don't worry! Just sand the runs down with 500 grit sandpaper and re-spray.
After Primer:
Move to the area you're painting, and Cheese Cloth again.
*I'm going to stop here because I don't know what paint gun, compressor, and type of paint & clearcoat you're using. Also, have you worked with a spraygun before??Last edited by hockeyman; 08-21-2006, 08:45 AM.sigpic
