My Chrome! :(

i was reallllllly cleaning my stock 16" chrome 5spokes the other day and noticed a tiny bit of pitting(which i thought was dirt). i was scrubbin really hard with a really soft sponge and nothing happened. then i took a regular dish sponge and rubbed a little lighter..only to find the finish coming off and now wat was once shiny is now flat with the lines from the sponge rubbed right into the chrome

is there a way to kinda fix this or am i just outta luck HELP

I'm guessing a Dremel with a polishing bit should help. Maybe sand down a little, then polish...depending on how deep the pits are.
