  • Removing paint from rims...

I bought some rims that were painted black from their prior owner. What are some recommendations to remove it. They are the plain snowflakes btw. Thank you.

Wait. Somethings not right here: If you don't like the black paint on the rims you bought why didn't you just buy some that weren't black? I can't imagine that plain ol' snowflakes would be hard to find.

Aircraft paint remover will strip ALL of the paint off, down to bare metal. Not
sure if thats what you want but its an option.

^ I would just sell the chrome ones and buy painted ones. I dont know how
to go about stripping chrome off and I know its not a good idea to paint over
                chrome.

Its the whole shipping issue that is really hard, these things weigh more than me!! lol Not to mention that the rears are 18x10.5.

They are painted with like spray paint or something. It's not stock if I forgot to specify. I got em for $75 btw. :)

I plan on stripping them but I'm concerned about the clear coat on them. If I use hardcore removers then I need to recoat them. Is that hard to do or what is the best way to get at them?

if you strip them, you're gonna need to clear coat again, no matter what. Clear coat is the top coat that protects the paint. To get rid of the paint, you must get rid of the clear coat. If you have the time, use som hardcore remover to get EVERYTHING off them, then take some sand paper to them and polish them up. Then re clear coat them all. I'm trying to talk myself into doing my wheels black with a polished lip, but don't think I'd be able to afford the down time with no car....
