  • bulb number in the hvac controls

My controls for my vents are no longer lit up. I plan on going in there tonight and see if i can fix it. I assume it's the bulb, but i thought there would be more than one bulb for the 3 knobs? I wouldn't think they'd all go out at once..

Anyway, what bulb should i go get so that i don't have to drive my car with teh dash taken apart?

    HVAC SWITCH
Carefully pop off the bezel around the radio. Remove the two 9/32” bolts on the sides of the HVAC and slide it out. Remove the knobs around the gauge by sliding them off. Then you’ll see a set of tabs on the top and there is also some on bottom. Pop that off and the face will slide right off. Careful of the defroster button and spring. Now you can put the Camaro face on and replace the knobs with the T/A ones or Camaro, you’re choice. If you look on the back of the HVAC, you’ll see 2 little sockets. Unplug those, pull out the stock bulbs and replace with 2 blue #74 LED bulbs. Test them to make sure they work. If they don’t, pull them out and flip 180 degrees in put them back in. Reverse everything to put it back together.

I'm gonna stick to white bulbs on this, i've seen pictures and the red isn't lit up at all with blue lights.

I have the older style dash, and those instructions sound like they are for the new one.

I think i can get it apart just fine i just want to know what bulbs i should get.

Im not sure, but I did replace mine, just go to a GM dealership and they can look it up for you. Thats what I did, but they didnt have the bulb at any place accept the dealership and they were 7 bucks a piece.

I got it apart, and it looks like the bulb is part of the wiring harness. There is two bulbs that are attached to two wires that plug in shortly after the lights.

Is there any place i might be able to find these without paying the ridiculous dealer prices?

Are they the usual 194 bulbs that are everywhere else. I think those 194s were even in the gauge cluster. Just an idea.

they are about the size of a 5mm LED.

aren't the 194s the bulbs that are in the sidemarker lights too? If so, those are too big.

I think its only about 7 dollars a bulb (from the dealer), thats 14 bucks. Not too bad.

Yeah i was thinking that was going to happen, but i just put a towel in the plier so it was padded a bit and with just the right amount of pressure, they came out. I guess i was lucky..
