  • getting the lens off the light

My tail light is leaking and i was wondering if i could approach it the same way as the whistler mod.. put the light in the oven for a while to loosen the glue to take it apart and reseal it..

What temp and how long if this would work?

I would do the same as the whistler mod instructions say.

just take a blowdryer to it, dry it out and seal it off with some caulking or something, bead of silicone?

i guess i'm sort of lucky that for the most part it broke along the line between clear and red so it should be easier to hide the crack..

I'm thinking i just need to put it back on with the right kind of glue/sealant and sand the excess off the outside... Thoughts?

I got it out of the oven and it was dang hot, the glue seemed to be melted a bit, especially around the white part, it wasn't connected at all. So i started working my fingers into it to try to get the lens off. I got the whole white part off as you can see, and the whole lens was flexible because it was so hot, so i figured it was so flexible it wouldn't snap real easy so i pulled a little bit harder once i got to the red to get it off and then suddenly the whole white part just snapped off unexpectedly.

I was lucky it came off perfectly along the white to red line for the most part, i used liquid nails to get it back together, let it dry over night, sanded it down and polished it up and it still looks better than before i broke it, so i'm happy i guess.
