  • Any Firebird owners have either of these hoods?

I know a couple people have cowl hoods for the Camaro, but I was wondering if anyone here has a cowl hood for the Firebird?

I'm really thinking of getting this 3" carbonfiber cowl hood for my car, but I would really like to see it on an actual car first.

While browsing ebay, I also ran across this other cowl hood for Firebird's, but this one is 4" instead of the 3".

if you ask me, carbon fiber hood=rice.

cowl isn't rice at all though, so i guess it depends what color your car is..

If you paint it im all for it but the whole carbon fiber look is total rice IMO.

A huge 4" cowl on a V6 is advertising something that isn't there, therefore a 4" cowl hood on a V6 = Rice. The carbon fibre part is just gravy.. or soy sauce in this case.

very true. I wasn't paying attention to the size, 4" is definitely wayy too big for a 6. 3" is pushing it imo

              Rice, rice, rice. Whatever.

I think they look pretty good, but the 4" is a little high. I think the 3" would look good.

it's not just on V6's that cowl hoods are dumb, it's dumb on modern F-body's in general. There's plenty of clearance with a stock hood for 90% of the V8's that have cowl hoods.

loads of people have turbo setups that require 4" hoods...

i dont liek the cowl on birds though.

Why is that? Are they mounting the intercooler on top of the motor?

Forgot to mention I have a V8 LT1, not a V6. Some of the LT1 guys do swap over to an Edelbrock Victor Jr. intake manifold with a 90degree elbow for the throttle body, and need the extra room with a cowl hood [although I don't have the money to do one of those at the moment :(]

And how is carbonfiber rice if it's used for its intended purpose, reducing weight? It's not like the ViS hood is carbonfiber tape put over fiberglass, they use real carbonfiber in their products.

I wish they would make the ram air hood in carbonfiber, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

And i bet you can count all the people who mount their turbo ontop of the intake with one hand, right? That's why I said "90% of the V8's"

Carbon fiber hoods have become an appearance mod lately. If you paint it and are using it too lose weight from the car that's different.

For our hoods you are right they probably are lighter, but for many cars with aluminum hoods the aftermarket carbon fiber hoods are heavier. Now if we were talking dry carbon fiber it would be completely different.

well if your doing a blow thru carb setup you'll need it. not much else would cause you to need it.

                              imo get a ws6 hood.
