Do I need a new hood?

Hey guys, I got a question. About 6 months ago, a bird **** on the hood of my car(I was parked under a power line):o. So I took it to a car wash and when I went to spray off the bird ****, it took the paint with it down to the metal!!! Anyway, it gets rusted in the spot where the metal is. What I've been doing is every few days I would take some steel wool and rub off the rust that had built up over those few days. If I take my car to a shop, are they gonna be able to just sand down the hood and repaint it, or am I gonna need an entirely new hood? Thanks guys.:cool:

ya, you dont have to replace the entire hood over, what seems to be, a small blemish.

no...you can get the whole thing repainted or use touchup if it isn't that noticeable. I got my hood and front clip repainted and my whole car detailed at a corvette dealership for $600

Depending on how important looks are to you for now you can just go get some paint touch up(depending on how big it is, post a pic?) at a Autozone or similiar store. Also for future reference.......when you have metal exposed it will rust. Either go get it painted, touch up/paint the area yourself, or at the minimum treat the metal so it does not rust. Especially using anything abrasive like steel wool all you were doing was exposing the metal over and over and removing layers. Not trying to attack you just giving you a heads up. Also try to remove any dead bugs/bird poop asap as the acids in it will eat the paint as you found out. I have no clue what is a good neutralizer for that type of acid besides washing it off asap(haven't learned detailing stuff yet at school). Well good luck man.

unless you sanded through the hood, they will be able to fix it. how bad is it anyway. do you have a pic?

that **** is beyond acidic, literally. Seriously catch that bird and interrogate the hell out of it till it tells you exactly what it ate. How long did you let that hood ornament sit on your car to let it do that?

It was there for 2 days. The bird **** didn't cover that entire area of paint that is missing. When I sprayed it off, it peeled off not only the paint under it but some of the paint in front of it as well. Am I gonna need a new hood?

What kind of bird was it? That way I know what birds not to avoid whe I'm driving.

Oh yeah the point of the thread. I don't see why you would need a new hood, a paint shop should be able to blend in the messed up spot with the rest of the hood. But IDK I'm no pro.

I'm pretty sure it was a pigeon. Those are the only type of birds I ever see on that power line.

Your in Indiana, I did a short stint up there, living not jail but same diffrence. I thought everyone up there carried a gun in their car, you should start indiscriminatly shooting everyone of them you see.
