  • Pics! Back from the Shop!!

I don't really post to often over here, but I still thought it would be cool for you peeps to check out the results. I brought my car into the shop to get some work done [paint and dent removal]. I kind of made a little timeline of where my car started and what it's gone through cosmetically. The car started life as a w68, but the dealer removed all the gfx. Apparently the fronts were pretty jacked up, so they scrapped the whole kit.

I purchased the car used and am the second owner. The car had 23k on the clock when I got it. She sits a little higher than 83k now, and to say we haven't been through alot is an understatement. During second week of ownership I was in a hit and run accident which left me with a pretty decently sized dent in the passenger side quarter-panel. I seldom took pictures of the passenger side of the car, and when I did I made sure to not get the dent. I did, however, get a few pics of the dent so I could look back and see that stage of the cars life. It took a little over 2 years to get that dent out, and now that it is, I can't say that I'm totally used to it. It looks great though, that's for sure! Without further adew, here's the pics. I'll sort of narrate as you progress through them. To kind of tell the story of the car's progression.

Shortly after, I added white vinyl overlays to some parts of the car. Noticbly the front firebird and the sides of the doors. I also got new tires for the car and painted the brake calipers red. I also added the limited "Last of the Breed" badges. The car pretty much stayed like this for a very long time. Throughout this time, I changed my exhaust from a Flowmaster muffler to SLP's Loudmouth catback system. I also added a set of Trans Am ground effects, to hide up some of the denting on the rocker panel from the accident. Here's a few pics from during that time:

The above picture clearly illustrates the magnitude of the dent. This is one of the few pictures that I ever took of it. Anyways, shortly after these pics I removed the "Firebird" lettering from the doors and the protective door edge molding. Here's one shot to show that:

The car remained this way for the better half of the next year. Here's a shot of everything above, and as the car sat, until November 2006.

In December 2006, I started to add the rest of the Trans Am parts, to finish off the look that had been started from adding the ground effects. I had always wanted the look of a WS6 Trans Am, but was unwilling to pay the over-the-top pricing "at the time". Randall already has a go fast car, so I figured, what the hell, might as well spend my money on making it look as good as possible. During December, I added the T/A Rear Bumper Cover, VFN WS6 Hood, Corsa Clone Exhaust Tips, and 17 inch Chrome ZR1's. The look of the car was nearly there. Here's the pics from that time:

January came and went with no major changes to the overall look of the vehicle. Minor changes include adding Stainless Steel "PONTIAC" letters for the rear bumper and changing the center caps from chrome to black.

Now comes, most likely, the single most greatest month of all time for my car. I had purchased a Trans Am hatch from a local seller and picked it up successfully. The problem was that the hatch was white. I couldn't drive the car around without feeling like a total 'tard, so it needed to go to the paint shop. The hood was also in need of paint, so I was looking to strike a deal with the shop owner. The original quote for all of the paint and body work was well over 2k, but we were able to come to an agreement on a price that was lower than that. I had been a return customer, which greatly helped, and promised him more business if I liked the results. After waiting a grueling 2 weeks, I finally got the car back. Everything was painted and the dent was long gone. I have to say I'm definitely happy with the results. Here's the pics:

There's still some more things I'd like to do to the car, but until I actually do them, they'll remain a secret! Thanks for looking/reading!

You car looks GREAT! The first thing that came to my mind though, is that if you wanted it to look like a Trans Am so badly, why not just get one. By the time you put all of that money into it, you could've had your car. So basically after all of that, you have a clone. ;) T/A enthusiasts will wonder: is it a Formula with a hood/spoiler? or is it a suped up Firebird (because of the foglights.) ;) If you really want to mess with people's heads, you should look into a turbo and do some serious performance upgrades next to back up the "T/A appearance".

I totally agree with what Shirl said. Looks great by the way. I personally really like the white lettering on the tires... looks realy good on NBM cars.

Definitely looks amazing. I think the formula/v6 front bumper looks better than the T/A bumper anyway. Love the car, looks awesome with the white lettering on the tires and all the little stuff..keep it up

Shirl, your correct to a point. A friend of mine totaled his TA and I got a good chunk of the parts for less than 500$. Plus, I needed a DD. I have a 1997 SS that is plenty go fast for me, so my real only concern with this car was to have an outstanding looking DD. I appreciate your comments though! Pretty soon, the Camaro will be a garage queen which means I can finally put the LS2 into the 'bird

Shirl said it best, you'll be confusing TA owners and other car enthusiasts with your car and then once you beat them and let them know you're a PROUD V6 Firebird owner, you'll have to have a camera to remember the look of their faces! The ride looks great man, keep it up.

Your car looks amazing. My only beef is that you labelled it as a Trans AM when it's not. Still a gorgeous car.

you should dark out the windows and do something with the center between the tailights.... looks kinda dull. But anyway looks good.
