They don't, its all in your head. Unless they Z's and SS's you've seen are packing sand bags in the trunk or something. Its true that Z28 and SS's springs are a little stiffer, but they're also heavier, and infact if you put them in your V6 it will raise the car up a bit. If you don't like the look of your stock fender gap (who does?) then i suggest getting lowering springs. Before you ask about those go search the suspension section.

In my experience, when you buy lowering springs that say 1"...thats a pretty good estimate, but not meaning its gonna be 1" exactly. My 1" lowering springs actually dropped the car about an 1 1/2". But all in all, Im very pleased with the new stance.

The only thing that can reduce the size of your fender gap (that is the gap between the top of the tire and the wheel well lip) is if you lower the car on special aftermarket springs (labelled "lowering springs), or if you get larger overall diameter wheels. What i mean is that if the overall diameter (that is the diameter of the rim plus the tire) of the wheel/tire combo is larger than it was stock, then more of the fender gap will be filled; although the car on a whole will actually stand further from the ground. Now when most people get new wheels the overall diameter doesn't change. Thats because as the rim diameter goes up the tire diameter (or sidewall height if you like) goes down, they call them low profile tires. You can of course get a larger rim and have the tire's sidewall height the same.. but then you would probably run into rubbing issues..

the l32 weighs a bit more than the ls1, but i dont know if it changes anything. get some lowering springs and you'll be happy.
