  • Car bra installation

I just got my front end repainted and I decided to get a bra to prevent all those little chips from happening.

Anyway, the instructions on the LeBRa cover say to pull out the wheel well cover and find three plastic clips on the inside of the cover to hook the bra to, but there are no F-ING plastic clips....wtf!?!?! How am I supposed to attach the thing? Am I just not looking in the right place?

yeah, in all seriousness, the bra hurts your paint more than it protects it...

yeah there was one on my car when i bought it and you can tell over the years where it has rubbed against the paint...but mine was just held on by velcro and tied off on a couple places.

Dirt and other junk gets under them and scratches the paint when the bra moves. Get a 3M clearbra. It won't stop every chip, but I hear they do a pretty good job and you can't see then until you are within a few feet of the car.

OK, let it suffice to say I was being stupid in my sleepiness. It's installed now.

However, over the years my paint on the front end got so terrible looking from all the chips and junk on it. I don't want that to happen again.

              As far as scratching:

              1. That's what polish is for
              2. A lot of the reason people get scratches underneath the bra is probably because dirt gets underneath there and the bra rubs the dirt against the paint. If you take it off, wash it, keep it clean, then chances are it won't have that problem.
              3. It's vinyl, vinyl won't make scratches unless there's dirt it's rubbing against it.

In the end, little scratches are fixable, chips are NOT. I want to be able to go 80 and 90 without worrying about my paint. :)

I've given this plenty of thought, believe me, and I have more than enough experience getting scratches out. If you know nothing about polishing and/or materials though, and don't detail your car constantly, I wouldn't recommend it for you.

I'll take it on and off as needed, really just keeping it on for my weekly driving. I'll post pics after a few months to show I was right. :)

I said the same thing you did without looking at your post. I've heard decent things about the clearbras, but I hear they're expensive and the other downside is you can't take them off and put them back on. I saw some of the cars at a car show recently with the clearbras on them and when they get scratched up they make the paint look like ****. Then what happens when you get four or five coats of wax on and one part of the hood looks a ton glossier than another part? So many issues.

QTF... i saw a maserati quattroporte in the parking lot at work that had something like that on it. It was completely invisible until i noticed it from a certain angle (and i was looking real close).
