  • Doors-metal or polymer

I was at the dealership last week and the tech told me the doors on our cars are made of polymer...is this true? For those of you that get your car rustproofed, do you get the doors done as well?

Stick a magnet on them. Does it stick?

Ok I'm about 99% certain they are metal. The part that wraps the top of the car connect the t top area and the back window is a plymer.

See I said I was 99%, I always leave that 1% for screwup.

                    Re: Doors-metal or polymer

the only exterior sheet metal parts on a 4th gen are the quarter panels, rockers, and if you still have your stock hood thats sheet metal also. the hood part i know fits with 93-97 cars, not so sure on the 98+.
doors (shell included), roof, and decklid are all fiberglass; bumpers and fenders are urethane (rubber type plastic).
it figures too, the only "dentable" parts on my car are littered with dents :( (consists of quarters and rockers) one of these days ill get around to fixing my own damn car

Yes the doors are fiberglass. I can justify this because my car was hit by some *** on the drivers side a few years ago and he took off. I think the only body parts on our cars that are metal are the stock hood, rear fenders, rocker panels, a-pilar, and headlight covers. I believe everything else is plastic/fiberglass.

Yeah mine was split from the top of the door down about 7 inches. Some two part epoxy and some vice grips to clamp it together done the trick. The door has held together now for close to 10 yrs.

^^^^ very true. There is metal in your door, but it's just one single metal bar that runs the length of the door, other than that, the rockers, rear quarter pannels, and hood. the rest fiberglass. Kind of a pain in the *** to do body work on.

if anything fiberglass is easier to do bodywork on, providing you know what youre doing. bumpers and fenders (being urethane on our cars) are the pita.
