I don't know if I have this in the right spot, but I have a 97 camaro rs, and I was wondering if I could put in a gauge cluster out of a Z28 into my car with a 150 mph speedo, if I can what do I need to change? any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: gauge cluster.
yes you can. You techically won't need to change anything but the cluster itself, but the tachometer will be ~25% off. To fix this, you cut the resistor off your V6 cluster for the tach, and solder it in place of the tach resistor on the V8 cluster. The rest will be fine.
Another way to fix the tach is to tune, but changing the resistors is cheaper and easier..just gotta know how to solder.

Re: gauge cluster.
well that is some good news, but I do have a couple of more ?'s, I have an analog cluster in mine, can I get a digital one, or do I have to stay analog?, and for my secound ? , is the resistor inside the cluster and if it is how do you know wich one you need?, I am all pretty new aqt this. thanks.

Re: gauge cluster.
I'm about to take on the task. My cluster went out and i bought one from another forum member on a different board. once i get it in i'll tell you how it went. Until then, i know there are at least a few that have done the swap and may have changed the resistors as well, they can chime in.

Re: gauge cluster.
I did this on my 95. I didn't change any resistor or anything and my tach is off. I have an auto so I really don't care.
I remember something a while ago about members saying that depending on some RPO codes you might not have to change out any resistors. Try a search and see.

I think basically this is because the feed is different on the V6's than on the V8's. I've had the schematics somewhere, but I think it's basically down to the fact that, as the V6's were available with performance pack with unrestricted top end, manufacturing a separate cluster specifically for these models wouldn't have been particularly cost effective. The more simple solution is to modify the signal to the dash.96 Teal Firebird
Colchester, Essex, UK
www.centrestage.free-online.co.uk

mine worked just fine with no resistor swaping. idles same rpm and shifts the same rpm speedo is deadon
