Cleaning love bugs

If anyone else lives in Florida, or some other area where these things swarm, you will know exactly what I'm talking about.

Does anyone have an easier way of cleaning these damn things?

It's not necessarily cleaning the actual bugs off, as it is cleaning what's left of them off. After you wipe them off, there are little black smears that take FOREVER to get off.. I spent about 6 hours trying to wash my car today just to get everything off.. I was on I-75 for about 2 hours and the whole front of my car had love bugs splattered all over.

When the car is wet, you can't see anything, but when it dries, that is when you see the little smears.. I got most of it off during the long time I spent trying to clean it, but there are still a few. I wouldn't mind if it weren't for the fact that it eats your paint. This will last the rest of summer, and I will probably have to wash my car like 3 times a week at least to keep them off, so I need an easier way.

:burn: :excited: :excited: those damn love bugs i drove with my gf from homestead fl to orlando and i think my car had more then any other car on the road i got gunk for bugs from walmart and i think brake fluid will work the same at least thats what i was told check before trying anything
on the bugs side its not a bad way to die maybe the best way

For me, I usually keep my car waxed, so cleaning off bugs and stuff with regular car wash isn't too hard. They usually wash off and leave no residue behind.

If possible, I suggest you get everything clean and then put on a layer of wax so it's easier to clean next time.

But how to get it clean? I really don't know. I've seen those bug and tar remover sprays, that might help. I've used it on other cars and it helps... but in the end, good old fashioned scrubbing usually does the trick.

One suggestion I have, and have used with good results is coke, it has some pretty crazy results with a bunch of things. I have a spray bottle, and spray it on, leave it for a few minutes, then wash it off.

Another thing that works, but is harsh on paint, is Spray9

Nope that's not the same thing. Those look like they were attracted to a light at night and died on the cars at a dealership. You can tell it's early morning by the shadows. That is nothing like hitting a bug with paint eating acid for blood at 70 MPH. Apples & Oranges

They were talking about this on the radio the other morning and had some ideas I never heard of before. They said that the Mr Clean Magic Eraser works well, or a drier sheet.

All I know is get that stuff off quick. I left them on, back when I was driving from Ft Bragg to Orlando to see my GF, giggity, and it will take the paint off after sitting for a couple of days. Bad bad things.

Nope that's not the same thing. Those look like they were attracted to a light at night and died on the cars at a dealership. You can tell it's early morning by the shadows. That is nothing like hitting a bug with paint eating acid for blood at 70 MPH. Apples & Oranges

This is generally my process: get the majority of it off with a bug and tar remover and a microfiber towel, wash the car or at least the area if the rest is fine, clay it, and reapply wax.

Won't brake fluid eat through your clear coat/paint? I wouldn't use anything besides products designed to not hurt your clear coat.

yeah they are nasty... I got hit bad in the Mustang... Just to give you guys an idea.

In a period of 10 minutes, I was having a hard time seeing out my windshield. And easily 40-50 bugs jammed up under my windshield wipers. and I didn't even use my wipers(just smears them)

I spent like 5 min getting 2-3 off the front of the camaro, its chilling in the garage, getting clayed and zainoed. And I have been driving the mustang to take all the bugs.


best thing though is a good coat of wax, and wash them off daily. They will eventually eat your paint up.

Also, I heard on ls1tech people having good results, using dryer sheets.

I just cleaned a **** load of these ****ers off my car. Took me 2 hrs to get my front end completely clean! Then I put 4 freakin layers of wax on the front end, and now if I hit any love bugs, they fly right off :D . I've also been told Pam works wonders, but haven't tried it :P

This guy is trying the how to avoid rubber residue from autocrossing/drag racing method.

I woudln't trust leaving the tape on for days in the sun.

there are actually signs on the Lake Jesup Bridge that say "beware of swarm" because you will hit the bugs and it will scare the hell out of you, like you hit something
