  • Weight difference in Trans Am hatch

I just got rear ended real bad and I figured that this may be a great opportunity to replace my firebird hatch with the Trans AM one. I was curious if the the Trans Am spoiler was a lot heavier. Does anybody know how much they weigh? (Didn't find any info like that in search)

I doubt its that much of a weight difference. I think you only gain 1/10 of a second per 100 lbs lost... so if the hatch even weight a 100lbs more than stock, well you only lose 1/10 of a second.

so if this fact is true, then if i got 1000lbs reduced off my firebird, and it weighed around 2300 lbs. I would only take a second off the 1/4 mile. Thats kinda weird.

I'm just going by what i've heard. Supposedly 100 lbs for 1/10 of a sec is an estimate to go buy. I never said it was a fact. The point is though that the trans am hatch won't make that much of a difference for him.

i think it that is average.. but if u could find a way to take off 1000 lbs.. i think u would see better then a second

you could get a sander and sand your fenders real real thin.. then take out all your seats and interior.. then cut out the floor board and put down some thin plstic. aluminum wheels. and you should be nice and light..

sorry that your thread has changed... look up the weight on a trans am and then look up the weight on a formula and see what the difference is. I doubt its much at all. The only differences would be the hatch and ram air hood.

Only take off a second? A second is an enormous amount of time in the 1/4-mile world...and taking off a half-ton of equipment, but still have the car pass inspection, is no small task.

i dont know how heavy exsactly the trans am spoiler is, but its a lot heavier than the firebird one. My friend has a ta hatch sitting in his garage, ill go and see about how heavy it is.

some of the more serious v8 guys into weight reduction will swap their TA spoiler for a firebird one. I believe I read somewhere 40lbs difference. Do a search on LS2.com, I beleive that is where I read it.

Maybe it was on this forum but I remember that the firebird hatch was rated better then the trans am because it had better downforce.
