  • no console

I have long arms, and have never been comfortable with the height of the armrest on the center console.
Has anyone ever removed theirs and left it off Besides for racing, tho I may autocross), and used carpet or something else to cover the tunnel and air bag module?
I just installed a ProForm shortshifter, and left the console off when I had to run an errand. I like the elbow room so much, Id like to find a custom way of just having the stick a e-brake on the tunnel. I dont smoke or drink in the car so those wont be missed...
    Thanks...

      Re: no console

ive thought about doing a similar thing, i think it would be alot neater and cleaner... but the absence of the cup holder would suck :(

        Re: no console

I use the cupholder for keys or my phone or whatever a lot more than for cups, so even though i rarely drink in the car, i would miss it. I personally use the armrest and storage in the center console quite a bit so i wouldn't do that, but it'd be cool to see what it would look like done right

          Good take on the cupholder(s).
I had an Alfa 164 with no holders and my oldest got me a cool door mount, but I think the fr passenger swingout in the Fbodies is the neatest I have seen.
My shortshift sticks up with only the large OEM rubber boot coated in Black n' Shine bolted onto the topload, the OEM fake leather shifter boot now graces the E-brake lever after gentle prodding, and I used the stainless steel mesh I am using for grills and debris sheilds as a temp cover for the bare areas before and after the shifter. A Scottish tartan covers the airbag sensor for now, and my arm is so comfortable commuting now that I must finish this project right. The garage opener cubbie slides on the AC/radio dash with the OEM clips, and the changeholder fits aft of the shifter. Moved my stainless fire ext from between the rear seats to passenger side of the AC dash, bolted on with the big screw for the front of the console. Makes me wanna autocross!
I will haunt carpet stores til I find the right grey remnant.:work:
I like the Proform shifter allot, $86 shipped from Northern.

              Roger, wilco....

One thing I noticed is the noise of the shifter, reminds me of my sportbike. Almost as sudden, too!
But also the the tranny whine and synchros. It is like the in-car cam in a sports prototype on SpeedTV! Thankfully, the Monsoon can overcome it when needed...:dj: Too many years working near ships and trains, I reckon.

No gases or heat seem to be entering the cabin, just mechanical noise. I have 3" S pipe and Borla catback, and it sounds a tad deeper inside the car now at cruise. Getting the looks right may take awhile, but the ergonomics and sounds are boss!
