ive never had chrome wheels, ive always loved polished wheels... but if im not mistaken, chrome polish has protectants that prevent such pitting from happening. I'd think just soap and watering them off wont really protect them from the elements.

Yea, i polish my wheels with dedicated chrome polish and have never had a problem.

haha! Ok, well, here's what I did so far.... took the worse one off (right rear) cleaned it and lightly sanded it on the inside. Then layed newspaper inside at the bottom and sprayed the inside of the wheel with chrome spray paint. (I think it was Duplicolor.) Then I clear-coated it. Came out ok for now. Better than it was. I still might at least purchase the POR clear sealer just to protect until I do a full out paint sealant job on them.
This is more of a PITA that I thought... I've been working on one wheel for half the day now... I sanded it and painted it. BUT...then when I cleared it, it got ****ed up. Thanks Duplicolor!! I should've known better than to mix 2 Duplicolor products together!! :mad: So I had to re-spray it again. This time with Krylon paint. Then I went to use the Glisten PC (POR 15) clearcoat and it started to leave brushmarks for some reason. Maybe the spraypaint and the por 15 are not compatible? So, then I touched it up again with the spray and now I just re-cleared it with Krylon clear. When that dries I'll try coating a small part with the Glisten PC again and hopefully it'll work this time because it has to have a hard clear coat on it, otherwise they'll just get messed up again.. Well, it looks like I should have just gotten the brush on hardening paint to begin with....
Well, the clear coat didn't work again... this sucks. So I had to respray with Krylon silver and clear the wheel with krylon clear. So that's it, I give up for now. Got 2 done so far and they look reallllly good, but I don't know how long the finish is going to hold up. I'll finish the other two wheels, hopefully tomorrow. I'll do a heavy duty paint next spring or summer...
Yeah, but I'd hate to see how much that would cost by the time you send them out.. shipping wheels is around $150 alone and the cost of each one to be re-chromed must be expensive. But I only need to clean the inside up anyway. The outside of them still looks awesome. I'll try and get a before and after pic later. :)
i'm sure that you could find a local place that does a good chrome job. but your right about the price. and like you said it's the inside of the wheel's. which car are they on? the vert? if they are just paint the inside of the rim a high glossy black. it will be very nice as an offset. i know that you did minor black here and there on that car.

SimiChrome has that protectant, but u must use it often.
