  • Late 4th gen's (99-02): who has roof bubbles??

(please dont vote if you have a 98 or older car or if you live in the arctic where the problem will never show)

If you have them, you allready know what im talking about... but just in case, read up: http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showth...6&page=1&pp=20

so... did GM screw your car up too?

BTW, I'm aware some 98's have the problem as well. If this is the case, post up as well.

oh, and for the fun of it... here is my experience with GM. After uselessly trying to get it fixed through the dealer I contacted gm's customer assistance #

Ok, so today i called the customer assistance line with GM 1800 222 1020. They got all of my information and opened up case 71-550-545-941 after I explained the problem. The put me in touch wiht Chad Penton at 1-866-790-5600 ext 11955 and he took the number on the bulliten and the description of the problem. Unbelieveably, he went back to the so called experienced service manager at the dealership and asked them if they had seen the problem before, and of course this guy said no. Chad told me at first that this bulliten must not be a GM bulliten and must just be from a private shop or something of that nature, and GM is not aware of the problem. Looks like gm customer assistance got me nowhere. Case 71-550-545-941 officially closed.

If anyone would like to call Chad tonight or next week, and let him know about your problem as well, that would be nice.

Has anyone ever called this 1800 222 1020 number and actually got their problem fixed? If so, do you still have a case number that we poor fools could use as a reference when we call in?

I need the number to the BBB.

really, you even have them? I know your roof on your camaro is red, and i would have thought they would mostly just show up on black roofs, since black will heat up a lot more than other colors (and the bubbles get worse as the roof gets hotter)

Somebody wrote HPP about this a while back. They said to use a product called Fusor No. 120 which is also listed from Pontiac as Goodwrench PN 12345726 and Fusor No. 127EZ. Apparently it's supposed to be applied to the whole affected area and a little past after it's been sanded down past the primer. I also have these bubbles but haven't tried it yet. It really bothers me I'm just too lazy to do anything about it. It's in the March 2006 issue in the q and a section in the back if you want to read it for yourself.

you may be confused here because i believe the "primer" they are talking about in this case is a brush on primer put on the inside before they put on the glue, not on the out side of the panel before the paint. if im wrong, please tell me. if all i had to do to fix the problem was repaint i'd be thrilled.

she has spent many a days outside in the hot florida sun...like I said it's not too bad, you have to wash/wax to notice them...but they're definitely there.

are you getting the bubbles on your 6 or on your Z?

Here is HPP's response word for word:

It sounds as though there is a problem under the paint and, quite possibly, in the actual composite SMC (sheet-molded compound) material the roof skin is made of. Merely repainting will not alleviate the cause; it will just cover it up for a while. I would sand the paint carefully, using a 500-grit paper until you get down to the primer, and then go a little past it to the composite plastic. Once you are at this point, you'll need to use a product called Fusor. Fusor No.120 is also listed from Pontiac as Goodwrench PN 12345726 and Fusor No. 127EZ. This product needs to be applied to the entire affected area and several inches past it. Follow the instructions and have the repaired areas primed and repainted accordingly. It should be fine after that.

                    Hope this helps.

the Z. the 6 is only a 96 so it isnt infected.

Hey Loochy! Read my last post. I posted exactly what they told the guy. I couldn't find it on their site to make a link.
